Prayer Request for Coast Guard Rescue that is Underway in Oregon

Pray Request

This same boat, 52' Motor Lifeboat Intrepid, is right now towing a 52' sailboat back to Charleston OR.
On board are 3 of my Coast Guard Brothers and 1 Sister.
They are battling 30-40 foot waves and nearing the harbor entrance.
They have been underway since 10 AM PST and went about 15 miles out
to rescue the sailboat and the 2 people onboard.
Due to extreme bar conditions
They will have to stay outside of the bar and attempt a crossing in the morning.
The 2 47' boats will be at the bar entrance when they finally cross.
I personally know all involved (except the man and woman on the sailboat).
This is how some of my Brothers and Sisters that I work with every Thursday
are spending part of this holiday season, saving others lives.
The former CO of the base is the SAR (Search and Rescue) co-ordinator at the
13th CG District headquarters in Seattle.
Please say a prayer for the safety of all involved.
Thank You

Please convey our admiration for these brave men when you are next in touch. They would probably say they were just doing their job, but that activity seemed to me to be 'above and beyond'. The couple on the sailboat were indeed lucky to be in such capable hands.

I've only crossed a bar a couple of times in a sailboat. - once with great excitement. When you see it ahead, and finally cross into the calm ----well, it is quite an experience. But when you have a mad, angry sea, relentless wind, and a large sailboat in tow -----the whole thought is unimaginable. Bless this crew. They are pretty special!

"Please convey our admiration for these brave men when you are next in touch."

I've spoken to 2 of them by phone so far.
I see them all every Thur when I am on duty at the station in the Operations Office.
I'm in the Coast Guard Auxiliary but serve on base with the regular crew.
I'll be sure and let them know of FReeper support and prayers for them.

Wow, can you say "mal du mere" (sp?) thats enough seas to make even the saltiest dog want to skip a meal or two.

I think the worst seas i have ever personally been in was about 300 miles due south of apalachicola, and the posterior muscles were tightened indeed.

It would be interesting to know the fitness of the sailboat crew, but many 40 - 60 foot yachts are now designed for two people. It is a lot of boat - especially in a bad sea, and you may be right on the money that they had more boat than they could handle. But it could just as easily have been more weather than they could handle - hard to know how people get caught out in some of these storms with the weather predicting equipment available today. Some folks get tired of being banged nearly to death in these kind of storms and break down and call the Coasties - sometimes they're so sea sick that they can't perform basic storm techniques on the boat. I don't envy them this experience.

Thank God, literally, for saving all involved. Coasties are the best!

Hey Tonk, please our share our concern and admiration for them and invite them over to FR sometime.

Thanks, bud, for your tender, sensitive heart. -- E

Thank you, God. Prayers answered. Rescuers and rescued have made it to safe harbor. Thanks, Tonkin, for the continued updates on the dicey situation. Thank you, Coasties, for all you do to protect our life and limb under all sorts of conditions.

Every time I woke up last nite I thought about these folks riding out one of the worst storms of the year. I am so glad to hear there are safe.

Same here. I'd wake up, pad off to the computer room to check the thread for news.

Now watch-- we'll find out it was Daschle and Carville on the yacht. (slowly pounds head on desk)
