White House aides are floating two names to replace aging Chief Justice William Rehnquist: Associate Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia.
Top Bushies say the conservative Scalia has the edge but not to count Thomas out-even though Dems still try and tag him as Anita Hill's sexual harasser.
Bush, however, has been told that Justice Thomas isn't keen on going through the meat grinder again.

On the other hand, Thomas is just 54 (same age as GWB) and would have a good 20 years ahead of him, maybe more. I would hope that Scalia gets the seat. Goes ten years then hands off to Justice Thomas.

Justice Thomas is hated by the Femi-Nazis as much as Hillary is despised here..Rove knows that this will get the Dims eyes off the other 2-3 conservative appiontees and focus on the fight for Chief Justice.
It could very well work!

Howard Phillips warned Orrin Hatch, with TV cameras running, that Souter was a corrupt individual. That is 100% right.

I would hope that Scalia gets the seat. Goes ten years then hands off to Justice Thomas. That's assuming that we still have a Republican president in 10 years. I'm optimistic that we will but I'm not a gambler. Let's take the points now while we still have the ball.

FINALLY!! Bush "eyes" the exact appointment I had in mind.
Go for Thomas, Mr. President. Scalia's a great justice, but he's in his 60s. Thomas, on the other hand, is the only baby boomer on the court yet he's already had over a decade of solid experience on the S.C.-- the 'RATs can't claim he'd be a novice this time around.
Chief Justice Thomas could probably serve 20+ years, and give the liberals a heartache as they realize an intelligence black conservative has become the first "minority" to head one of three branches of government.

Strangest thing about Anita Hill: I was babysitting my grandchildren on the day the news broke about Hill. I turned on the television and saw some woman facing the cameras. I had NO idea what she was talking about at that point, but one thing did register very, very strongly with me. SHE WAS LYING!
My gut instinct surely proved to be right. Let them bring her back to testify again. Let the world know that she was a pawn of the lying democrats.

That was BEFORE Clinton. It may be more difficult this time to use the sexual harassment argument.
BINGO

OMG, what a dilemma, how do you choose between them? This is a no lose choice for the people.
To: ewing
Selecting Thomas would be brilliant. I love Scalia, but he is too old. Any time that Nina Totenburg and her cronies bring up anything about Sexual Harrassment, all the Pubbies have to do is yell "Clinton-Clinton-Clinton!" and publish some of the statements that they made in support of the Rapist in Chief.

Them aides gonna get in trouble if they keep floating..... lol.
Get the staunch conservative names out now so the actual nominee flows through unchallenged....

Thomas or Scalia..... Thomas or Scalia....Thomas or Scalia.... tough decision.. but a win either way.. I would lean towards Scalia myself.. but Clarance Thomas would make a superb Cheief Justice as well... Tough choice Mr. President... My family will be in prayer for you.

According to White House aides O'Connor, Rehnquist, and Stevens are leaving. <<
Good RIDDENCE to the RINO and the bow-tie cutting off the air to his brain. He was one of the two justices who ruled for GORE during the "partisan" recount case. The slimy so-called "centrist" actually votes for the 'RATs the majority of the time and was Jerry "football" Ford's 3rd choice for the job. He should have keep searching for a fourth choice.
Do S.C. justices still represent federal "circuits" like they did in the 19th century? If so, I think Stevens would be the justice for my circuit (great lakes region of the midwest). He was a Chicago corporate lawyer.
I humbly suggest this fellow from the Illinois Supreme Court as a replacement, who currently is the most conservative member of our 7-member court. Plus, ya gotta love the celebrity he brings with his former career with Da Bears:
JUSTICE
Robert R. "Bob" Thomas
Illinois Supreme Court
Second District
(R-DuPage County)

Who is that fat, black female pig that they drag out on some of the talk shows to be the token ultra-left winger? The one that said she hoped Thomas' wife would cook fatty foods for him so he'd have a heart attack? She defended Willie's filth and corruption no matter what the facts. Unfortunately, we'd never get them to release any of the news tapes (probably some technical reason) but I love to see her defend Willie again using the "it was only about sex" argument while atacking Thomas, alleging the same thing. Yep, fat black leftist sow!!

Thomas or Scalia This will be a nightmare for the Left no matter which is selected. They're both hated by the liberals. Life is beautiful.

O'Connor and Stevens are both going.....wow. Where did you read this? Apparently the WH has some info. Anyway, if this is true, we have the opportunity to finally get a conservative majority once they leave.
