What Is Enlightenment (Susan Bridle): Which brings us to another question I wanted to ask you. Sally Miller Gearhart, in her article "The FutureIf There Is OneIs Female" writes: "At least three further requirements supplement the strategies of environmentalists if we were to create and preserve a less violent world. 1) Every culture must begin to affirm the female future. 2) Species responsibility must be returned to women in every culture. 3) The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately ten percent of the human race." What do you think about this statement?

Mary Daly: I think it's not a bad idea at all. If life is to survive on this planet, there must be a decontamination of the Earth. I think this will be accompanied by an evolutionary process that will result in a drastic reduction of the population of males. People are afraid to say that kind of stuff anymore.

WIE: Yes. I find myself now thinking that's a bit shocking.

MD: Well, it's shocking that it would be shocking.

WIE: So it doesn't sound like your vision of a separate nation for women is something you see as an interim stage that would eventually lead to men and women living together in true equality.

MD: No. That's a very old question. I answered that to audiences twenty-five, thirty years ago. I just don't think that way. See, right now, I would be totally joyous to have a great community of womenwhether men are somewhere out on the periphery or not. I don't have this goal of: "Oh, then we can all get together again!" That doesn't seem to be a very promising future. So why would I think about it? I think it's pretty evident that men are not central to my thought.

WIE: I have one last question. At the beginning of this interview, you spoke about the experience of being deeply at one with that which animates all of life. I wanted to ask you what you think about the possibility of becoming identified with that as who one ultimately is, having that as one's ultimate resting place, or ground, so to speak, and where one's gender would no longer be a primary reference point.

MD: I don't know if that has anything to do with my experience. I have my own experience of oneness. Sometimes I have ecstasy and a kind of active repose in connection with nature. It's tremendous. But I never forget that I'm a woman, because this is me. I know who I am. I have Female integrity.

It's also insufferably arrogant.

She says bunches of arrogant and weird stuff in the interview, Nick, illustrating a complete disconnect from the real world. The 10%-90% thing is probably the most outrageous aspect of her remarks, but it's completely of a piece with her entire man-loathing worldview.

The exquisitely ironic point to be made about aggressive feminists like Daly is that they represent the male principle in their own gender! A world inhabited by them and theirs would quickly revert to all the worst behaviors and failures that we see in the world they want to leave behind. Those failures emanate from human nature, and Daly's ideal feminine society would still be 100% human, where Dalyesque butch fems would quickly claim their place at the top of the hierarchy.

All of our population growth, for the past 30 years, has been from immigration. American women have negative population growth.

With current trends in immigration, America will have 400 million people by 2040, and over 1 billion by the end of the century.

Since nearly everyone wants to overpopulate America, all we have to do is only admit females immigrants into the country. The next 700,000 immigrants admited into this country, must be female.

Ever read any "feminist sciece fiction"? I have. In the funtastic feminist future typical of this kind of box-lapper, the few surviving men would be more like human sperm banks than human stud bulls. Males would be cloned, kept sedated and unconscious, then hooked up to some kind of milking machine at puberty and used as a source of sperm until no longer able to "produce", then pitilessly euthanized. After all, we're only good for one thing.

In truth, however, males aren't even good for that. It's possible to transplant the nucleus of one egg cell into another egg cell today; the result is a zygote that becomes a baby (always female, of course) with two female parents. By using this technique, a society of lesbos could be created that would have no further biological need for men.

Of course, what these twisted systyrs are ignoring is that fact that men and women aren't separable by nature. We are designed as complimentary parts of a whole human person: "Male and fmale created He them". A society without men would be a society of quasi-human female animals; an all-male society would likewise decay into a herd of quasi-human beings. As a species, humanity is composed of men and women, and individuals attempting to thwart that fact would soon find themselves unable to funtion as normal human beings either psychologicaly or socially. Chaos and collapse would follow.

Besides, men are by nature much better and killing and subjugating women thaan women are ar killing or subjugating men. Human males are bigger, stronger, and more aggressive than are human females, and any attempt by radical feminists to reduce the male population to a mere 10% of the whole would be certainly defeated by angry men. Ironically, any serious attempt at a Final Solution of the male "problem" by these psychopathic carpet-munchers could set off a societal backlash that could put women back to barefoot-and-pregnant status again.

No woman I know would go along with this "professor" and her mad musings anyway. The ranks of psychotic man-haters have always been thin, and could easily be made thinner if they proved themselves to be dangerous. Ignore this croaking toad and maybe she'll go back unde her rock.

Better yet, ship her to Saudi Arabia COD and let her see what "male oppression" is really like...

Mmmmm.....Let's see - this woman thinks that women are better suited for participating in the decontamination of the planet and reducing the male population by "evolutionary process" .... I will probably get flamed for this but - Mary espouses the rhetoric of a bitter old female control freak.

Who in their right mind would consider "women" to be more qualified than men to create and preserve a less violent world? The women who came up with this idea are the same ones who want to run the show by promoting and advocating those who believe in the cult violence of human sacrifice via legal abortion. Who would trust these women to protect Earth? A less violent world?? Some of the most violent people I have seen in action have been women. There are plenty of them driving around in SUV's during rush hour on any given day of the week.

Hello Mary? - Did you forget your zoloft at this interview? Was it your time of month? Did you forget most women are totally hormonally imbalanced 2 out of 4 weeks of the month? Not that most men aren't hormonally imbalanced 4 out of 4 weeks of the month...but there hasn't been much news of men interested in drastically reducing the female population. (Yet.)

Who is going to chose which men would qualify for survival protection? Would a drastically reduced male population even want to survive? Who would want to live under the rule of a planet filled with scorned women? The whole world got to witness what it drove Bill Clinton to - and he didn't stop driving until he sent Hillary back to Washington.

(And with that in mind, think about how well this experience has prepared Hillary for her next role - just in case an evolutionary decontamination process takes place.)

seriously....the only point that seems right that I think this writer is endorsing is that of protecting the female gender.....

in cultures where women are denigrated , enslaved, disrespected....for example in the radical Islamic nations....civilized living is impossible....

cultures where women are at the minimum respected and have equal rights are cultures where men can florish as well...men are better off in cultures where women are happy and secure....and have a sense of identity....

Our American culture although not perfect has at least made life for women better and easier and I do feel most women are happy and satisfied, despite what NOW says.....

ON the this Thanksgiving Day...I am very happy to be an American and to have lived my whole life here....(goes without saying I feel the same about most of the westernized countries.)

Finally - an environmentalist wacko position that I can support!

Besides - I would make all kinds of money "de-chicking" computers. You see the kind I mean in offices all the time: stuffed dolls and Post-It notes all over the monitor, cursors that look like starfish and monkeys, Active Desktop screensavers that take ten minutes just to boot up. I get called in when the Boss notices that one of these machines is taking a lot more time to run applications than it used to, and tends to freeze often. What I usually find is that it is choked with adware and viruses, there are lots of unneeded startup processes running in background, and a long list of service packs and critical updates never applied.
