Good catch. Gone are the days when someone can claim to have heard something like that and I believe them. Transcripts - that's what I want to read before I'll believe this little tidbit.

You just wait and see! After the commission issues its report we'll see some real reform just like the real reform we saw after the Grace Commission delivered its report!

I am beginning to think I am the only one who actually heard Kissinger's news conference. Perhaps there is a transcript. He SAID they would be making recommendations to prevent another such tragedy from occurring.

"The man who brought us the petrodollar to appease the tensions in Arabia now will try to do the equivalent with appeasing Wahhabis."He wasn't brought in to analyse the Wahhabi enemy. His job is to analyse US intelligence prior to 9/11.
To: Smogger
"Um what exactly is your opposition to Kissinger?"
For one thing, he should have been executed for treason after WW2 for being an agent for not only the US but working as an agent for Germany

The author of The Threatening Storm is Kenneth M. Pollack and you can likely check it out at the library. It's a Council on Foreign Relations Book. The author was featured on Oprah of all places, and it changed the minds of even the soccer moms regarding the need to invade Iraq. It's not a difficult read at all, is fact filled with CIA declassified information and editorials have been written by liberals who have changed their mind about Iraq after reading the book.
The author is one of the world's leading experts on Iraq, worked for the CIA and National Security Council for 15 years, and has studied Saddam closer than anyone else in the US. He was one of only 3 CIA analysts who predicted Saddam would invade Kuwait, and currently the Joint Chiefs of Staff consult with him. It's the best book I've read in many years and highly recommended.

Personally, I think this is a good choice. He is widely respected, a NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER (shuts up the left), has no ax to grind, is non-partisan, and will be quite thorough.
I do not think Kissinger is going to whitewash anything.
And, the Rats will have to shut up about the entire matter while the committee goes ahead with its investigation.
I will be interested to see who else is named to the committee.

I agree with you, Miss Marple, that Kissinger is a very good choice. Those who are complaining in this forum about Kissinger's KBG connections without any facts to back up their claims need to put up information to support their complaints or perhaps try to understand geopolitics a little better. A good start to understanding geopolitics and how we often temporarily befriend our enemies in order to further our cause should read The Threatening Storm.

No not Whitewater the Clinton realestate scandal, the Mena drug operation. A lot of scandals were lumped in or at least attempted to be lumped in with Whitewater. That name sort of became all encompassing for most of the Arkansas scandals. Mena was a CIA arms to Contras/drugs in return thing. Clinton was Governnor at the time was he and his Arkansas buddies were aware of it and laundered the money. I had recently read the book Compromised by Terry Reed and when Ben-Viniste said he was Barry Seals lawyer, which he had been and used the knowledge acquired as such as a threat against the GOP I knew exactly what he meant. Obviously Damato knew exactly what it was all about too as he shut up about it immediately and changed the subject.
Welcome to FR.
If you are trying to imply that I am new to FR and therefore my comment have no merit I then suggest it is you who is new or you would have been aware of all this. I found FR from a link on Drudge that said "Whitewater Files". Those files were FR's claim to fame at the time.

"Anyone care to enlighten us just what it is Kissinger did with the KGB, or shall be just take your word for it?"Kissinger was a counter-intelligence operative for the US military from 1943 to 1946, and remained in US military intelligence gathering until 1949. He didn't become a citizen until 1943. Maybe that's where the confusion stems from.

Is this a joke? Well, he COULD have tried to reinstate the Warren Commission, those who are left of it at least..

Then maybe Bush can answer why: He was on a month long vacation during a time of extremely high intelligence chatter? Why his administration gave $43 million to the Taliban 6 months prior to 9/11? How come an oil-company consultant was named interim President of Afghanistan? Why WH staffers were given Cipro on the night of 9/11? Because Presidents always go on vacation in August. Because the previous administration had a history of giving $$ to the Taliban and we didn't understand the issues as well as we do today. Who is the oil-company president who was named as interim President of Afghanistan and if that little tidbit is true, do you understand geopolitics as they relate to oil and peace in the middle east? Perhaps an oil man understands oil and knows how to negotiate with Middle Easterners, etc. And because if at a time we were being attacked our intelligence officials thought an anthrax attack was possible, doesn't it seem prudent to give staffers and administration officials a vaccine? Those officials try to think outside the box and get attacked by conspiracy theorists when a month later their worst fears come true. Sheesh.

"He SAID they would be making recommendations to prevent another such tragedy from occurring."Yep. His committee is authorized to make recommendations to ensure - meaning "greatly lessen the chance" - that another breakdown in intelligence doesn't allow another attack to get through.

I think that Kissenger is the perfect choiceFor the administration I agree, he is the perfect choice. Will wrap it up nice and clean. No possible ties to any of our Muslim 'allies', will show the Saudis have been strong supporters of these US all along, and will present Islam as a 'religion of peace' with a few extremists who acted totally against Islamic teachings. Yep perfect choice
Now the truth on the other hand, for the truth this would not be a good choice. But hey, who needs the truth? I guess we can tell that to whoever the next terrorist attack victims are then huh?
To: Brandon
Kewl. I saw Kissinger appear with Madeline Half-Bright before a Senate Panel.
It was fun to see how loyal he was to the Prez. Also fun to see him and Half-Bright get into several catfights.
