Bill of No Rights
11/25/02 | Anonymous

Posted on 11/25/2002 4:16:40 PM PST by My2Cents

Since there is so much confusion on the part of some as to what the Bill of Rights actually mean to individuals and to our society, how about adoption of a Bill of No Rights, specifying the rights NOT extended to people in our society:

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE IX: You don't have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness -- which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an overabundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused about what the original Bill of Rights mean.

This is GREAT! I love it.

One addition: You do not have the right to vote for the President of the United States. This is a "Republic", therefore you have the right to vote for your state's electors who will then cast your state's alloted votes for president. And you only have the right to vote on that elector as long as your state gives you that right, the state may chose to pick it's electors in another fashion if it so chooses. (it seems too many people do not understand this concept, including AlGore who kept raging about "popular vote".

That's a good one. I like it. But how about an addendum: "Maximum voter turnout is not necessarily a good thing. If you are ignorant of candidates and ballot measures, please stay home and avoid inflicting your ignorance on the rest of the voting public."

Several of the articles can be summed up as: You do not have the right to anything that requires others to provide it for you.

No, I didn't do a search, but thanks for telling me. I don't know where we'd all be if it weren't for the "Redundant Post Police." Actually, I come onto FR numerous times every day, and I've never seen this item posted. So, for those of us who are not here 24/7 and who don't see every stinking post placed up on FR, can't you perhaps, just maybe, allow for a 44th post of this? But I admire you. If duplicate posts on FR is all you have to worry about, you have an easy, generally carefree life, my friend.

My2Cents,

I thought that I was the only person that missed a few posts!!

Normally if I have seen the post before I just click "back". Some folks cannot do that. However a good "multi-post Nazi" posts the previous link(s).

We will probably both burn in heck over this issue!!!!

Look. I'm not the posting police. If I were, I'd be filing about two dozen complaints a day. But 43 times? Come on. That's 19 more times than the infamous "Bad American" for G-d's sake. 43 times. That's probably the all-time record for duplicate posts! It seems like that calls for, if not an apology, at least not getting snippy about it when someone points it out to you.

May I add one...haven't read the others, this is the first time I had seen this topic, to wit

You do not have the right, of you are a woman, to kill the child that is growing within your body, defenseless, and totally dependent upon you, yet, nevertheless, totally distinct from you, with it's own DNA, it's own blood type, and it's own future, which you do not have the right to decide to put an end to!
