Today, November 25, 2002, with the signature of George W. Bush creating the Department of Homeland Security, a milestone in the History of our great country was marked by the death of the Twin Pillars of our society, Freedom and Liberty.
The fight to keep alive these two foundations of our Nation has been a long and arduous one. The mercilous attacks on them have come from politicians on both sides of the aisle in their ever continuing grab for more and more power. Regardless of popular support for the twins, the political class has long sought to bring about their demise. In a "Bi-Partisan" effort both houses of Congress have voted to destroy the most important rights of the People, only a very few of the Congress opposed the death of these important twins.
Those of us who have known these twins for a long time will be very much saddened by their death, and those who have only known them briefly will soon learn how important they were to the Welfare and Security of our Great Country. With the death of Liberty and Freedom it will only be a short time until the Populace of this country will be living under a Dictatorship, controlled by an "Elite" class of politicians who will dictate every facet of our lives.
Requiem In Pacet!
You're too kind, my dear. (I can hardly stop laughing)
Uh, the two major parties have left themselves open to true constitutional correction on so many issues as to dwarf whatever stinking little agendas (green/statist) they might try to keep on the front burner of the media stove. (BTW, I've enjoyed your historical insights to most things- not that I'm trying to k*ss ass, but it is my feeling that you're a major credit to FR in this regard).
Back to the stove thingy: today's liberal and psuedo conservative would seriously feel the heat were they to face-off with someone well versed in the Constitution or Bill of Rights. You agree? Fish in a barrel.
The fact that it can't or won't happen ought to be very telling, don't you think?
Everything, every single thing, has a " potential " for evil usage. Does that mean that you think we should get rid of everything ? With kids like you, one has to wonder at the state of education, in this country. Even though you now think that you're a Conservative,after being a Liberal, you still think ( er ... feel ) as a Liberal and ignore facts.
First off I'm no kid. I'm a man in his 20's who has been through quite a bit. Secondly I was a liberal in high school(as was everyone else, it's all we were taught). I almost always side against big Government because history has taught us it always ends bad(Nazi Germany mean anything to you?). It is you who are ignoring the facts.
No shame at all. The R's if they would have me. Shame on them if they wouldn't.
I hope you save that to read when you reach 40. LOL
I said so because I can face up to my mistakes. I don't run from them. By the way, if someone's really that smart they don't have to say so. "I, OTOH, am quite well educated and understand politics far better than you do."
Just promise me that you will not dye your skin blue for the campaign.
Well, no one has a right to be a candidate of any particular party. The political marketplace is wonderfully efficient for weeding out the flotsam, not that that would be you necessarily.
You've got a few years on me....but I agree with everything you stated !!
ANY idiot that believes the HSA is a 'good thing' for this country...only proves how poor the educational system(s) have fallen over the last few decades.
I reckon that all of the Sheeple, or in this case the 'BushBotz', only have to swallow one more time...as they have bleeted to be the first ones in line for everything else that King George V has mandated.
This time it is the government that is able to 'enforce' a Nationwide Vaccination if only ONE case Small-Pox is verified anywhere the UN looks. Who cares if the vaccination hasn't been fully tested - no one can sue the Potion's Manufacturers if your children die because of their vaccination...
...thanks to the HSA;
Anyone think that they want to purchase a gun...and not let anyone know about it ??
Not any longer......thanks, to the HSA;
Make a mint on the Stock Market and, foolishly, spend all of that cash on a new (insert personal favorite High Ticket Item here:) ?? Good ol' Uncle Sam is a-watchin'
...just to make sure you ain't a terrorist....
Thanks, to the HSA;
Just wait for the next (Plane Crash, Sniper, Global Warming Rally)...and the 'Traffic Stops' that may follow....
If you have nothing to hide....you won't mind if they torture you ...... just to make sure
..Fatherland...err....Homeland Security and all....
Yeah...sure....no one has lost the first 'Liberty' or 'Freedom'.....
...thanks, to the HSA....
BAA-AA-AA-AA-AA-AA-aa-aa-aa-aa..
The FFs, if you recall, set up this government and the way in which we select our representaives, at every level, with NO party affiliation ; at first. After the disasterous election, of our second president, with a V.P, from what today we'd call a different party, that was the end of that. The FFs considered a parlimentarian system ( the only kind that coallition geovernace and a multitude of parties can exist in )to be an anthema. The Constitution is NOT a " living " document, as the Liberals claim. What it IS, though, is something that can be and has been added to and also additions taken away from. Since you appear to be in favor of what the FFs said / did / wrote, just remeber that they were fallible men and you can't claim that YOU know exactly what they would think of their counter parts today, nor the situations we now face, in light of the 18th century writings.
Is the two party system perfect ? It sure beats the other alturnatives. Are some elected officials , today, ignoring the Constitution ? Of course they are; but then, that's nothing new. Thomas Jefferson, to name but one FF, did so too, when he was president.
At one point of our lives, or another, most people who are passionately interested in politics, think that they can do far better than anyone who has been elected is doing. That's sheer hubris, on your part, in this context ! Don't laugh, take a deep breathe, and take what I've already said quite seriously. I'm familiar with you and your posts. You couldn't " kick ass ", in a political debate with me ; why suppose that you could do so with Condi Rice, Rumsfeld, President Bush, or name your opponent ? RINO ? Which RINO ? Dem ? Well, that might be another matter; though I doubt it. They got elected. Some actually believed what they said. You haven't charm enough to countermand that
What's REALLY telling, is that you have such a gigantic image of yourself. :-)
I am glad someone besides myself resists the elevation of the Founding Fathers to Greek deities or secular pontiffs.
Franklin said: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
I have heard that quote hundreds of times, but not once have I heard it put into context, and have been unable to find the original text containing that passage anywhere on the Internet -- only that one line. I suspect that its true meaning wouldn't lend its use to the almost-no-government folks quite as well.
We haven't lost any of our essential liberty or basic freedom either. And besides, Franklin wasn't living in the 21st century and facing the immoral and destructive capability of international terrorism. So I will excuse old Ben Franklin in that regard. OTOH, you should know better, except your blind to the realities of the modern world.
It's incredible. Some people actually seem to be suggesting that if the USA can't be as "free" as they think it should be, there's no use even preserving American society -- or even Americans themselves.
No, " everyone " wasn't a Liberal in high school. I wasn't, my daughter wasn't, and I know quite a few people, of all ages, who weren't ; no matter what dear Winston Churchill said. LOL
Nazi Germany was ruled by a despotic tyrant, who was a lefty bigot. Ever hear of post French Revolution government tryany ? How about what Oliver Cromwell did to England and the English ? You're not only awfully " wet behind the ears ", you're not up to this debate!
Great observation!
Hubris and self delusion go hand in hand.
You got it! And freeper to freeper I'll let you in on something. I won't have to attend any weddings during the campaign. Still, I'm a little worried about how my family might look at the podium. There's me, my wife (of 22yrs.) and her grandaughter (13yrs) who lives with us. I've got a couple of blue collar brothers and some white collar sisters. My parents have both passed.
"Vote for me, I'll set you free" is a slogan I could live with. Think it might strike a chord with anybody else?
Ol' Karl would be soooo Proud!
It was just a helpful hint; which, in your emotional state, you couldn't see past. Take it from me, kiddo, you don't really know or understand as much as you are positive that you do, now. LOL
Any idiot, who immediately imagines that HSA is going to turn on YOU, with no good reason ( you aren't an Islamic terrorist, are you ? ), has paranoidal delusions. I guess our school system is worse and has been worse, for far longer than anyone can say. Public schooled, were you ?
