Death of American Twins, Liberty and Freedom
Self

Posted on 11/25/2002 3:27:05 PM PST by Old philosopher

Today, November 25, 2002, with the signature of George W. Bush creating the Department of Homeland Security, a milestone in the History of our great country was marked by the death of the Twin Pillars of our society, Freedom and Liberty.

The fight to keep alive these two foundations of our Nation has been a long and arduous one. The mercilous attacks on them have come from politicians on both sides of the aisle in their ever continuing grab for more and more power. Regardless of popular support for the twins, the political class has long sought to bring about their demise. In a "Bi-Partisan" effort both houses of Congress have voted to destroy the most important rights of the People, only a very few of the Congress opposed the death of these important twins.

Those of us who have known these twins for a long time will be very much saddened by their death, and those who have only known them briefly will soon learn how important they were to the Welfare and Security of our Great Country. With the death of Liberty and Freedom it will only be a short time until the Populace of this country will be living under a Dictatorship, controlled by an "Elite" class of politicians who will dictate every facet of our lives.

Requiem In Pacet!

Are you a senior citizen too? Do you FEAR someone telling you that you're hyperventilating? Why don't you tell me one "liberty" you've lost because of the consolidation of government departments into Homeland Security?

Just because you cannot handle the reality of the idea, don't deny any other their birth right. SHEOPLE don't need no steenkin' free liberty...right.?

Is this Liberty Lobby boilerplate? Think for yourself and stop reading clowns like Charley Reese and Glenn Spencer.

Funny how so-called conservatives are willing to spend billions of dollars and allow a goobermint to intrude on our lives to "protect" us from a handful of invaders bent on doing us harm, but lift no finger to the millions crossing our southern border at will.

Why is it you spend even one more hour in this insufferable hellhole of a dungeon known as the United States of America? Are your legs broken? Does your tricycle have flat tires?

"Come on, be a man and have the guts to either mention the SPECIFIC freedom/liberty that was stolen, or else admit that you are simply full of hyperbole."

I have a better idea. Perhaps YOU could name the ONLY amendment contained in the Bill of "RIGHTS" that has not been abrogated/trashed (pervious to today that is).

As one of the few remaining who has sworn an OATH to the Constitution.....I can only say that today is a BLACKER day than usual.

There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance -- that principle is contempt prior to investigation. -- Herbert Spencer (1820-1903)

It is history a fixin' to repeating itself.

As I thought, you can't recite one liberty that has been abrogated by the Department of Homeland Security.

You "libertarians" remind me of that law firm, you know Jump, Beller, and Blow.

Liberty and freedom are not words/ideas in current favor. Democracy is all the rage now. As long as we put it to a vote and get a majority it must be good. Whatever it is it must never be measured against liberty or freedom. The fact that you get so much flak for even mentioning them on a conservative site is indicative of how far gone we are. From an analytical point of view it is a fascinating study, from a lover's view the loss is most painful. Ah well, nothing lasts forever.

Seems to me what we lost is the freedom to be secure in our documents, papers, personal effects, from unreasonable searches and seizures, without probable cause. We lost the 4th amendment. So far it's not looking good for our side with these Republicans in office. CFR, now this.

What business does the Pentagon, or Homeland security have keeping files on the transactions and exchanges of each and every law abiding American? I don't think bouncing a little rubble in Afghanistan warrants or justifies attacks on inalienable rights.

Is this "privacy agency" capable of making the determination of who is "innocent"? What standards do they use to make that determination? Are we to allow them to rip the 4th Amendment from the Constitution and place our right to be secure in our papers and possessions in their clumsy hands given that there has never been an agency in D.C. that is not either abusive, corrupt, inept or all three?

Is George Bush king? How will he be able to insure that Gore or Clinton doesn't abuse this? That's simple, he can't. I guess if your innocent you have nothing to worry about, right? No innocent has ever been the victim of IRS ineptitude or malice, right?

This is more than just the government knowing what every marketing business knows, what soft drink you buy, what your credit card balance is. It goes much deeper than that. Is there trouble in your marriage, who do you owe, what the topic of that very private conversation you had with your broker was. Are you getting along with your boss, does your kid smoke pot. And once that spotlight is put on you, innocent or guilty, there is no where to hide. Not many are so innocent that there are not a few skeletons in their closet, or at the very least something that can be embarassing or misconstrued. You know, something PRIVATE.
