Jeffords, Leahy should blame themselves (WOW! Someone in VT has some sense!)

I read with interest Erin Kelly's article headlined "Vermont senators lose clout" (Nov. 7). The essence of her story points out Vermont's loss of influence within the U.S. Senate as it shifts from Democratic to Republican control. What is not presented in her article is how our two U.S. senators unwittingly contributed to that loss.

".............Vermont's two senators have not risen to the standard established by the Constitution and the 17th Amendment.............."

Great letter. It should be put as a sidebar on the front page of every newspaper up there.

Man, that's a genius response to the left's and Jefford's hypocritical imploring howls of bipartisanship. It's for the others, not for them.

I can't think of any other state that has more despicable Senators.....

I'm so glad they got what they deserved...MINORITY STATUS and possibly voted out next election cycle.

"By not working within their party or across party lines, Vermont's two senators have not risen to the standard established by the Constitution and the 17th Amendment."

They've also departed from a Vermont tradition of working across the party lines on issues of joint interest to both sides. That certainly includes having federal judges. The benches are now really understaffed. There's a real workflow problem out there because of Sen. Leahy's antics.

Ah..... good point. However, on Cantwell's first day in the senate, she showed up dressed EXACTLY like Hillary, and was Hillary's shadow all day long...

Speaks volumes, one would think ;0)

Good night! Another unjustified attack on a Republican, Senator Hatch! What is the basis for the attacks, one wonders? Why not attack the real culprits, the RATS like Leahy and his ilk? They are the obstructionists, not Hatch who voted in favor of all of the President's judiciary selections.

.....for their loss of stature within the Senate....

"Dashleized" synonym for loss of stature. As in Jeffords was Dashleized in the last election and has no committee seat now.

Good night! Another unjustified attack on a Republican, Senator Hatch!

My reading of that post, was to cut 4 inches off LEAHY's chair, to make Leahy look as small as he really is.

Great article/opinion. Thanks for posting. We'll see what the people of Vermont are made of, and how long their memories are, in 2004. Leahy, IMHO, is in the top 3 of the most vicious, radical, hate-mongering "public servants" in the whole country.

VT is such a HIPPIE HOMO ENVIROWHACKED state it's no wonder they look at a selfish Turncoat and socailist pig as men representative of their values.

The sad thing is that VT is a beautiful state. What a waste.... Same applies to most of the Northeast, except NH, and most of Maine. Maybe we can arrange a trade with Canada. We'll take Ontario and they can have the Northeast and then we'll trade Washington and California for Manitoba and Alberta.

Vermont is about as goofy as it was portrayed to be on the old "Newhart" show. Nah,just joking.

Tom Tuttle related to Fred? I seriously doubt it. Fred is an old Vermonter farmer. He happened to get enough signatures to run and the Republicans put up a "flatlander" against him in the primary. The flatlander didn't have a chance. I think the turning point was a talkshow debate question about how many tits on a cow. The flatlander didn't have a clue. The farmer was charming, outspoken with a thick old Vermonter accent, naive about politics. His campaign slogan was "Spread Fred."

A historical note on PAW. When Kennedy lost the primary to Jimmy Carter his adherents became PAW, along with his HollyLeft funding. It was a Kennedy "holding tank" for his as of then still smoldering presidential ambitions. It has evolved into his (and Norman Lear's) Group for UnAmerican Socialism (GUS) poosing as being for America while steadfastly seeking to undermine the Constitution and our founding principles.
