Jeffords, Leahy should blame themselves (WOW! Someone in VT has some sense!)

I read with interest Erin Kelly's article headlined "Vermont senators lose clout" (Nov. 7). The essence of her story points out Vermont's loss of influence within the U.S. Senate as it shifts from Democratic to Republican control. What is not presented in her article is how our two U.S. senators unwittingly contributed to that loss.

Someone does see the light, unfortunately though, that person is not a member of the press, rather, he is just a regular citizen

Unfortunately, Leahy's chairmanship has come under compelling criticism from both the liberal and conservative media for the tactics used in confirming/rejecting nominees to our nation's appellate courts.

I'll like this guy to cite one source where Leaky was under criticism from the liberal media.

I guess he was trying to be balanced.

He misses making a great point by not pointing out that state Senators can disapprove a pick with the blue card rule. If both state senators think this person is the right man for the job, who is Leaky think he is to go against the will of the people?

I hope Orrin Hatch has the legs of his committee chair cut down about 4 inches, so he looks as small as he really is

This guy is lucky if they don't stone him to death up there.

No state that elects so many traitors can allow this kind of hate-speach to continue. /sarcasm

I find it amazing and amusing that Jeffords actually asked to be let back into the majority!

Anyway to contact this guy and invite him to FreeRepublic? Sounds like he might welcome the support of about 100,000 new friends.

This is a good story, but of what import? Does anyone know the approve/disapprove numbers for Jeffords and Leahy within Vermont? This is what has to change. Now this story is a good start, but it's only a start. With the coming GOP majority, (God, that sounds good!) attention will be diverted from past dirty tricks by the homeboys and this sentiment will change. I'm sure that Pat & Jimmy are counting on that. Look for both to keep a much lower profile on controversial topics, and trumpet any agreements with the administration. This is the normal method for blunting a critical press several years from reelection.

Jimmy doesn't come up until 2006, so he has plenty of time to pull this off. Pat comes up in two years (I think) so he has to work it a little harder. If the past is prolog, his performance, or lack of it, will be but a faded memory when next his name comes up in the voting booth.

How can we keep up this pressure for two to four years? Any ideas are cheerfully accepted.

Be well...

In a very petulant letter to the editors (of the Washington Times), Senator Jeffords vehemently denied he had sought to return to the GOP. Now I'll leave it to you and other fellow Freepers to decide whom is telling the truth.

Though Jeffords' decision to align himself with the Democratic Party is frequently portrayed in Vermont as a selfless act of independence,...

Unfortunately, I can verify this statement as correct. The socialist winnie's here in VT are so selfish and liberal they beleive all the BS spewed by the media and the Dem spin about conservatives and Bush that they actually think that Jefford's and leahy are men of vitue and integrity.

VT is such a HIPPIE HOMO ENVIROWHACKED state it's no wonder they look at a selfish Turncoat and socailist pig as men representative of their values.

Leahy and Jeffords knew exactly what they were doing.

Good article, thanks for the post!

Jeffords traded his political integrity for short-term influence while Leaky pandered to radical leftists like the PAW. They're both in the political penalty box for unsportsman-like conduct.

And his current attempts to reingratiate himself with the Republican Party?

Well, he's not a Republican now! And so, it is time to replace him.

A no brainer!

"Farmer Jim" Jeffords proved to be more in the image of Benedict Arnold than Ethan Allen.

Remember in 1998, some very aberrant and ultraliberal person named "Fred ___" ran "against" Leahy and got so caught up in the campaign that he actually ending up "endorsing" Leahy and personally voting for Leahy, rather than himself. Probably Fred figured out that Leahy was more "moderate" than himself! Only in VT. Where is Coolidge?

The essential problem in Vermont is that you have a gutless Republican party that won't confront or even address the liberal party line.
Republicans up here will do anything, anything, just so that no one God forbid calls them sexist, racist, or greedy.
When they get a pair of balls there will be hope.Until then fuggetaboudit.
And yes I'm a flatlander. And yes, flatlanders have a right to have an opinion!
