ALERT -- DON'T LET JEFFORDS STAY IN POWER!!!!!
ISSUE: We've won the election. Now, can our leaders make the right decisions... from the start?
Senator Jim Jeffords, the turncoat Republican from Vermont who switched to Independent and gave the Daschle Democrats control of the last Senate, is trying to keep his treacherous grip on political power.
You see, in return for his "favor" to the Democrats, the *former* Senate leaders (don't you love saying that?) allowed Jeffords to keep his chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee. With the GOP back in power, he'll lose that seat for sure.
Or will he?
According to the Washington Times, "the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP -- so long as he retained his committee chairmanship."
Don't think it could happen? Senate Republican leaders are *notorious* for shooting themselves in the foot, and might do it again -- unless they hear from US right away.
ACTION ITEM: As Gary Bauer puts it, "Senator Jeffords made his decision. He cost his party and the President two years of Senate gridlock. Now he can build character while being part of the new Senate Democrat minority."
We need THOUSANDS of conservative activists across the nation to get a *strong* message to the new Senate Majority Leader, Trent Lott, telling him to "JUST SAY NO" to turncoat Sen. Jeffords... and ConservativeAlerts.com has set up a quick- and-easy way to do that, a way that he'll be SURE to get the message.
CLICK BELOW to send a *personalized letter* by Federal Express, urging Senator Lott to DENY any request by Sen. Jeffords for ANY position of power in the new Senate:

If you were to send a FedEx to Sen. Lott yourself, it would cost you at least $15.00 -- but we've set it up so you can send your message via Federal Express for only $9.95! Send your FedEx TODAY, to help bring an end to Jeffords' desperate attempt at keeping power!
NOTE: As always, we've also set up a way for you to send an e-mail to Sen. Lott for FREE -- just go to
http://www.conservativealerts.com/112202.htm and click to send your personalized e-mail today.
Please forward this to everyone you know who wants to see our leaders start making the right decisions NOW, and not fall into any appeasements of liberals in the Senate -- especially a turncoat like Jeffords. Thank you!
with all due respect to you (I appreciate what you're doing), I think this is pathetic, assinine and refuse to spend one red cent on beggin' Trent Lott to do what should be a no-brainer. If he screws this one up, I guess I just give up.
What Lott needs is a strong conservative challenger in his primary in 2004(?). Whoever it is should attack old Trenty for being such a little wimp. Maybe that would put the fear of God back in him. (Of course, it'd be better if he lost ;)
My mistake - While I wanted to make the point about the difference between Senator Smith and Jeffords, I saw the point of your first post and just forgot to acknowledge it before making my points. I should have been clearer, and I'm sorry about that. On your actual point, I agree completely. It's unfortunate that while the GOP needed a Moses, we've been stuck with a Lott.

Bill
Well what's stopping them? Either they agree with him and feel he's doing a good job or they are cowards.
See reply #3 and send your message for free!
Jeffords will be either with us or against us based on his "independent" actions. He's still a Senator so draw him in not cast him away, (you can work for his defeat come election time), but for now we want his vote!
in Nigeria!!!!
I'd be in favor of that -- after the new Republican governor of VT (who has the power to appoint the replacement senator) takes office in January.
Lott said that, and then didn't step down after the Republicans lost 5 Senate seats in 2000?
Then why dont you ask them? As far as Im concerned, actions speak louder than words. If someone could beat Lott and wanted to, they would have. Its as simple as that.
