ALERT -- DON'T LET JEFFORDS STAY IN POWER!!!!!

ISSUE: We've won the election. Now, can our leaders make the right decisions... from the start?

Senator Jim Jeffords, the turncoat Republican from Vermont who switched to Independent and gave the Daschle Democrats control of the last Senate, is trying to keep his treacherous grip on political power.

You see, in return for his "favor" to the Democrats, the *former* Senate leaders (don't you love saying that?) allowed Jeffords to keep his chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee. With the GOP back in power, he'll lose that seat for sure.

Or will he?

According to the Washington Times, "the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP -- so long as he retained his committee chairmanship."

Don't think it could happen? Senate Republican leaders are *notorious* for shooting themselves in the foot, and might do it again -- unless they hear from US right away.

ACTION ITEM: As Gary Bauer puts it, "Senator Jeffords made his decision. He cost his party and the President two years of Senate gridlock. Now he can build character while being part of the new Senate Democrat minority."

We need THOUSANDS of conservative activists across the nation to get a *strong* message to the new Senate Majority Leader, Trent Lott, telling him to "JUST SAY NO" to turncoat Sen. Jeffords... and ConservativeAlerts.com has set up a quick- and-easy way to do that, a way that he'll be SURE to get the message.

CLICK BELOW to send a *personalized letter* by Federal Express, urging Senator Lott to DENY any request by Sen. Jeffords for ANY position of power in the new Senate:

http://www.campaigncontribution.com/alerts/jeffords2/

If you were to send a FedEx to Sen. Lott yourself, it would cost you at least $15.00 -- but we've set it up so you can send your message via Federal Express for only $9.95! Send your FedEx TODAY, to help bring an end to Jeffords' desperate attempt at keeping power!

NOTE: As always, we've also set up a way for you to send an e-mail to Sen. Lott for FREE -- just go to

http://www.conservativealerts.com/112202.htm and click to send your personalized e-mail today.

Please forward this to everyone you know who wants to see our leaders start making the right decisions NOW, and not fall into any appeasements of liberals in the Senate -- especially a turncoat like Jeffords. Thank you!

Here's the email I sent Sen. Lott using the freemail address you provided:

Dear Senator Lott:

Congratulations on your upcoming return to the role of Senate Majority Leader. It is a role you should have had for the last two years. And would have, if not for Sen. Jim Jeffords's remarkably unprincipled decision to reject the Republicans who elected him and join with Senate Democrats to undermine our President.

I see now, however that, according to the Washington Times, "the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP -- so long as he retained his committee chairmanship."

With all due respect, Senator Jeffords made his decision. He cost our party, our President and our nation two years of Senate gridlock. As Gary Bauer put it, "Now he can build character while being part of the new Senate Democrat minority."

I urge you, as one loyal republican to another, to please not allow Sen. Jeffords, regardless of his party affiliation, a role in the Republican leadership.

Thank you for your consideration.

Lott already said no. He was reported to have laughed when he was approached about Jeffords being open to coming back if he could retain his committee chairmanship.

I never use FedEx myself -- always UPS! Actually they, RNC, NRSC, NRCC all used this same service before the election which I never availed myself of.

Why isn't Don Nickels or Bill Frist the majority leader?

Because they are too cowardly to run for the position.

Exactly what I was thinking -- Texas boot up against the backside of Lott to give him some backbone.

Anyone but Lott, I would not have given this a passing notice!

I wish I could give you an answer but he was already chosen when no one else went up against him. My guess he is on a very short leash. Now if he wants to act like a Majority Leader come out and say in public that Republicans are not considering given Jeffords a committee chair or any other responsibility in the GOP Caucus!

In fact, I wouldn't take Jeffords back in the GOP Caucus because I would figure he was spying for daschle/clinton!

Actually Senator Nickles was going to run but didn't have the votes to win so he is now the Budget Chairman. More importantly Lott said in 1998 if Nickles didn't challenge him then, he would step down in 2000 -- well this is 2002 and he is still not stepping down.

WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS?
Despite denials by his staff, Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords did approach several colleagues in the Republican Senate Caucus about returning to the fold. According to several Republican Senate leadership sources, Jeffords himself floated the idea to Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee and to Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe in the aftermath of the Republicans' regaining control of the Senate.

"It wasn't a half-joking conversation," says a Senate leadership staffer. "The senators thought it serious enough to go to their caucus leaders and raise the issue. At that point it became a joke."

Soon to be Majority Leader Trent Lott found the possibility of a Jeffords return humorous, according the sources. "In fact as soon as we won Missouri and it was obvious we'd regain control, one of the first things we thought of was when Jeffords was going to come around looking to cut a deal for his committee chairmanship," says another Senate leadership aide, referring to Jeffords' role as head of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee

The promise of that plum chairmanship was what sent Jeffords over to the dark side to begin with. And keeping it is ostensibly why Jeffords wants to come back. A few years ago, Republicans might have been willing to listen, but with hardliners like Mitch McConnell, Larry Craig and Rick Santorum gaining greater influence over the Republican caucus, it's doubtful many of his former fellow Republicans would be willing to forgive and forget the spectacle Jeffords created when he abandoned the GOP to vote with the Democrats last year.

Thank you sir! I can guarantee Lott if he even considered it, there would be a mutiny and Sen Nickles/Sen Inhofe would be leading it!
