A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Announcements
The Holidays Are Coming
This will be pretty short. As your hostesses, we wanted to say a few things about the upcoming holidays and some of the things you might expect to see on the Finest between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Expect some reruns of earlier tributes, for those who might not have seen them from the summer.
We know that Christmas shopping, and decorating, and baking, and families, and Open Houses, and other things will be occupying more of everyone's time from Thanksgiving all the way through New Year's Eve.
With that in mind, realize that Daisy and Lori and Dansangel and I will also be doing all these things, and while we'll still be inviting you here every day with a fresh thread, during this busy season we will be cutting back on extensive new profiles and ask for your participation in keeping it fun and interesting for all who still come by every day.
Will You Help Us?
We want to ask you for help in putting a thread together .... would someone like to share their favorite holiday crafts, recipes, a special holiday memory, collectables, photos of your home decorated, inside and out?
Please share your ideas and thoughts with any one of us by FReepmail, and let's have a joyous, frazzle-free holiday season. That's not to say we don't still have several New Profiles up our sleeve .... it's not ALL reruns! (But of course you will have to visit the thread to see!) LOL
And Finally..A Couple of Things...
Just a reminder: we DO have some great new profiles for this week AND next, already in the works .... and next Thursday, look for a beautiful special Holiday thread by Mama_Bear, which will run from Thanksgiving Day through Sunday.
Do start getting those pictures of your special fur friends to us for our Pet Christmas thread later in December. We will announce the deadline very soon for you to get them to us!

Opinions by our own 'King of Ping'
The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer |

Just received this in my e-mail and had to share:
A man brought a very limp dog into the veterinary clinic. As he laid the dog on the table, Doc Buck pulled out his stethoscope, placing the receptor on the dog's chest. After a moment or two, the Doc shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, but your dog has passed away."
"What?" screamed the man. "How can you tell? You haven't done any testing on him or anything. I want another opinion!"
With that, Doc turned and left the room. In a few moments, he returned with a Labrador retriever. The retriever went right to work, sniffing the poor dog on the table and checking him out thoroughly. After a considerable amount of sniffing, the retriever sadly shook his head and said "Bark."
The vet then took the Labrador out and returned in a few moments with a cat, which walked around the poor dog several times and then sadly shook his head and said, Meow." He then jumped off the table and ran out of the room.
The vet said, "There's nothing more I can do," and handed the man a bill for $600.
The dog's owner went postal. "$600! Just to tell me my dog is dead? This is outrageous!"
Doc shook his head sadly and explained. "If you had taken my word for it, it would have been $50, but then you insisted on the Lab work and the cat scan. . .
heheheheheheh
OK, now it's REALLY time to go to bed!

"Remember......sunsets?"
You're right. Your comment hits home more considering everything you've gone through this past week. Like a splash of water in the face!
Some friends and relatives think that we're crazy to have invited my parents (just 80) to join us. Part of me would like to spend the time with Mr. D. alone but we have the rest of our life together. He lost his parents years ago, mine are like his and my folks are so excited about the trip. They have traveled the world but no longer are comfortable about traveling and love having someone they trust in control. So yes...I will try to forgo the computer stop and smell the roses and enjoy the sunsets....Thanks for that reminder....
To: dutchess
Be safe. Making your parents happy will make you happy. I'm glad you're taking them along. When you get old and begin to feel vulnerable, it's hard to do things alone. You're a good daughter and God will bless you.

Aahhh...Spookie that's so cute.
To: WVNan
Awe shucks...you've brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for the reminder. I had a momentary pityparty...wanting alone time only with Mr. D. His parents are gone, ours are in their 80s and are so thrilled for the trip. Thanks for helping me enjoy this and be thrilled to take them on this adventure rather than see it as a burden...Boy...an outlook does a lot...
P.S> Special prayers for Jack and Uncle John as I watch the sunset this weekend.
Thanks Nan. You gave me a Thanksgiving perspective. Looking forward to meeting you in person.
To: Aquamarine; WVNan
Last summer when Rosa had asked me to pray for her son, we exchanged names and phone numbers.
I just called her and spoke with her, and she is doing all right.
She is already 65, and plans to retire in the Spring anyway, so that should resolve any vulnerability.
I made it clear I would be glad to make a formal complaint against the woman as a patient in the act of having blood drawn, now or whenever Rosa wanted that.
Having been a Department Secretary in a major hospital, believe me, I am not intimidated by anyone in something like this, where there is blatant unprofessionalism and needless hurt.
Rosa said she is like this with everyone, and has had a number of family problems, at the same time saying that, of course, is no excuse.
She now has both my phone numbers in case she changes her mind and needs help.

You are always rescuing people Lady. Do you realize that you just became an umbrella for Rosa? Those are nice to have in case of rain. ((((hugs))))

Rosa said she is like this with everyone, and has had a number of family problems, Well if that was a legitimate excuse we could all go around wreaking havoc.
To: WVNan
It's good to see you back Nan. Glad to hear your husband's doing better.
To: WVNan
I can only imagine the view from heaven of all the "umbrellas" you have planted, Nan.
The wonder is being able to see how He has a plan for each and every person, meeting needs only He can see down the road, making provisions in advance for us.

Actually Jack and I had the opportunity to counsel one of the nurses at OSU this week-end. She is struggling with a 13 year old "bright" son. Of course he's bored with school. She needed to vent her frustrations and we were there to listen.

Oh, LadyX you are such a joy; making an invisible God, visible. Thank you. So many times we get caught up in situations and circumstances that seem so out of control, and we haven't a clue of how to fight without losing it all. But, by faith continuing to trust even when it looks bleak.
Thank you again.
