USO Canteen FReeper Style looking for people to help post graphics, links, prayers, jokes etc each day.
Full or Part time help needed.
Pay = Knowing that you helped someone in the military know that they are not forgotten.
HiJinx Posted this on yesterdays thread.
"Each day we take some time to pass on a message of support to our veterans, active duty personnel, and their families.
Some of us spend hours on end in the Canteen, and others just post once.
Whichever you do doesn't matter, it's getting the message out to those we support that matters!"

Received this in my email: not a joke but something to think about:
Somehow we survived
Well you are over thirty five if you get this.
You lived as a child in the 60s or the 70s.
Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived as
long as we have.................
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or
cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.
(Not to mention hitchhiking to town as a young kid!)
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as
long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No
one was able to reach us all day. No cell phones. Unthinkable.
We played dodge-ball and sometimes the ball would really
hurt. We got cut and broke bones and broke teeth
and there were no law suits from these accidents.
They were accidents. No one was to blame but us.
Remember accidents?
We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue
and learned to get over it.
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar soda but
we were never overweight.........we were always
outside playing.
We shared one grape soda with four friends,
from one bottle and no one died from this?
We did not have Play Stations, Nintendo 64, X Boxes, video
games at all, 99 channels on cable, video tape movies,
surround sound, personal cellular phones, Personal Computers, internet chat rooms,
............... we had friends. We went outside and found them.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on
the door, or rung the bell or just walked in and talked to them.
Imagine such a thing. Without asking a parent!
By ourselves! Out there in the cold cruel world! Without a guardian.
How did we do it?
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms
and although we were told it would happen,
we did not put out very many eyes,
nor did the worms live inside us forever.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment
.....Some students weren't as smart as others so they failed a grade
and were held back to repeat the same grade
.....Horrors. Tests were not adjusted for any reason.
Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected.
No one to hide behind.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law, imagine that!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers
and problem solvers and inventors, ever.
The past 50 years has been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.
And you're one of them. Congratulations!
Please pass this on to others that have had the luck to grow up as kids,
before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good.

To the men in the military and the Canteen, thank you very much for the flowers!((((HUGS))))
To: tomkow6
I like the graphics of our military in action! Thanks for sharing them, tom.
To: deadhead
Deadhead, that lighthouse is beautiful. Thank you for stopping in each day to honor our troops. And, Colleen, you always have a good graphic to share with them. Thanks again.

LOL! I go to great lengths to make sure it smells clean, plus not all the kitties stay inside. I've been inside houses that there was only one cat and they reeked. gack! I've made a point no one would leave here thinking the same thing. :-D
Sure ya don't wanna cat? I've got just about every size, shape, and color there is. LOL!! Naaah, I could never part with my babies. Aggravating as they can be at times,(ok, all the time) I love every one of 'em. I think I'll go ahaed and keep 'em.
Pleased to meet you, BTW. Welcome to the Canteen! You'll find that there are some wonderful folks here who all share a common bond...love and support for our troops and veterans. I've been on a brief sabbatical but will be back in force soon.

Thanks for the graphics and information everyone! They are awesome! The jokes are pretty funny too.
Here's an oldie but goodie:
One day at the end of class little Johnny's teacher has the
class go home and think of a story and then
conclude the moral of that story. The following day the
teacher asks for the first volunteer to tell their story,
little Suzy raises her hand.
"My dad owns a farm and every Sunday we load the chicken
eggs on the truck and drive into town to sell them at the market.
Well, one Sunday we hit a big bump and
all the eggs flew out of the basket and onto the road."
The teacher asks for the moral of the story. Suzy
replies, "Don't keep all your eggs in one basket."
Next is little Lucy. "Well my dad owns a farm too and every
weekend we take the chicken eggs and put them in the incubator.
Last weekend only 8 of the 12 eggs hatched."
The teacher asks for the moral of the story. Lucy
replies "Don't count your eggs before they're hatched."
Last is little Johnny. "My uncle Ted fought in the Vietnam
war; his plane was shot down over enemy territory.
He jumped out before it crashed with only a case of beer,
a machine gun and a machete. On the way
down he drank the case of beer. Unfortunately,
he landed right in the middle of 100 Vietnamese soldiers.
He shot 70 with his machine gun, but ran out of bullets,
so he pulled out his machete and killed 20 more.
The blade on his machete broke, so he killed the last ten with his bare hands".
Teacher looks in shock at Johnny and asks if there is
possibly any moral to his story.
Johnny replies, "Don't f@#$ with uncle Ted when he's been drinking!"

Have to share something with you..........
I have one cat, Morticha (Misstress of Mischief, aka Me-Me) & one dog, Lassie (a doxy-terrier mix mutt). Both of them are the same size & age (14+). I might add that they are playmates! ( Who says dogs & cats don't mix?)
Every night, when I fix their evening meal, I add in a spoon or two of canned food. Whenever I open a can of dog food with the electric can opener, Me-Me comes running & sits under my feet. Her food comes in a "pop-top" can, so when I pop it, I normally let her smell the lid. I've only been doing this for 5-6 weeks now. A can of food last about 5 days.
Tonight, I forgot to let her smell the lid. I felt a soft touch on my leg..........I ignored it. I felt another, a little stronger pat on my leg...........I again ignored it. I finally received a good "smack" on my leg from her. I let her smell the lid, and ALL was well!.
She walked over to the little rug where there food bowls are placed & waited patiently for her bowl.
Funny thing, we bought her several cat toys, but she would rather play with a twist-tie or a piece of string!

Thanks. I've enjoyed the Canteen and you'll be seeing me pretty regurarly. I have one cat that is 20 years old (I had another one that was born at the same time but she died a few years ago :( ). I (and my wife) love our baby more than anyone can imagine, so I know what you mean. I also know what you mean when you just walk into some peoples' house and even with one or two cats, *yech*. Glad to hear you go the extra yard for your brood!
Take care

Got a good look at the Loinid shower? With no sun, I would think you'd get a good gander. Also, will you be seeing the Northern Lights? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

No sun until the 23rd of January?
Maybe if we share a few of these, it won't be so bad up there...!

Good evening, everyone!! Hope all our troops that are lurking are enjoying themselves. Kick off your shoes and relax for as long as you can!!
Please keep in mind that not all the music will be to your liking. If it is, then you can come sit with MoJo. So? Please don't get offended. We hope to offer you a variety in the Canteen. And this includes music! So? God Bless All Our Troops, Allies, and Canteeners!! *HUGS*

Hey woman how are ya???
Way to go MoJo, Barry White, whoo hoooo, now we are rocking!! Fantastic!!!!!!
To: tomkow6
You're lucky you let her smell the lid when you did. The next step after the smack on the leg is 'climb it like a tree'! LOL!! I've got the scars to prove it!
I feed my masses a little canned food in the mornings (or whenever I emerge from the bat cave) and I toss the lids into the sink. As many as can get their fat little selves up there lick the lids while I dole the food out. It keeps a few of them occupied anyway. hahaha!
And yes, dogs and cats can be the best of friends. We had a collie when I was young and he'd curl up to sleep and have our three cats piled on top of him. They loved to nestle in his fur.
Your Lassie sounds like a cute dog. That's a cute combination...doxy and terrier.
