"New Terror Threat (to American children) in Indonesia"

The Al Qaeda-linked network that carried out the October 12 nightclub bombings on Indonesia's resort island of Bali is planning to strike international schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing Western and Indonesian officials.

The plan to attack Western students at the schools was uncovered in the last few days, and officials said the schools would be closed until at least Wednesday, the Times said in its online edition.

Officials declined to say precisely how they had learned of the plot, but the United States and Australia have stepped up intelligence gathering in Indonesia since the Bali attack, which killed more than 180 people, including many Australians, the newspaper said.

Based on information from Western intelligence agencies, diplomats said the planned attack was directed primarily at the Jakarta International School, (http://www.jisedu.org/) which has 2,500 students, about a third of whom are Americans, the paper said.

Diplomats told the Times the Australian and British schools also plan to close, the report said.

They are to remain closed until Indonesian police provide adequate security, one diplomat told the newspaper.

The plotters are thought to be a cell within the Al Qaeda network of Muslim extremists that has carried out several terrorist actions in Indonesia, and nearly succeeded in blowing up the American, Australian, British and Israeli embassies in Singapore last December, officials told the newspaper.

Again, American schoolchildren were discovered to be the target of a possible major attack by al-Qaida allies. It makes little difference if they are in Kansas City or Jakarta IMHO: they are innocents, they are Americans and they deserve protection and attention, and as for al-Qaida and their allies, they and all their ilk deserve to be sent to Flaming Hades for a fitting and just punishment.

How horrible! I have a friend who lives in Jakarta. She blamed Bali on Bush's agenda. I honestly will NEVER understand Demoncrats! I told Patsy that Bush's agenda is to get rid of terrorism. She is so liberal that she doesn't understand!

I have an internet friend who lives in Indonesia. She is a native Indonesian but is a Christian. She is never certain when she may be a target for these nuts. Pray for those who follow the Lord in the midsts of the evildoers.

This is quite serious.

But I cannot believe the story has been out for hours and hardly any reaction in the US. It is burning up the news in Asia. Australia, New Zealand are also very worried. They are closing the schools for their nationals as well. Of course, the Indonesian government is playing it down. One need only look at the photos of Kuta Beach, Bali two weeks ago, though. Quite serious IMHO.

You know, sometimes I wonder if America (the grassroots) really tracks, notices or even cares for its citizens overseas when they are not wearing some kind of a military uniform. There are many many more Americans overseas than just the boys and girls in the Armed Forces you know. 38,000 American civilians alone just in Japan. They are easily forgotten until something happens.

I rarely watch 60 Minutes but they had a segment on Woodward's new book last nite in which the CIA's head of counterterrorism promised to bring Bin Laden's head in a box and the AlQaeda member's heads placed on stakes. In light of what these scum have done and are apparently planning, what a brilliant idea!
