Pelosi on The Today Show: "I'm a Conservative Catholic"
The Today Show

Matt Lauer just completed an interview with Nancy Pelosi. After some standard stuff about her "historic" role as the first woman to lead a congressional party, Lauer asked a a pretty probing question:
"When Republicans chose Newt as their leader, Democrats were quick to say they had gone too far right. Why shouldn't the Republicans now say that in choosing you, the Democrats have gone too far left?"
Pelosi answered by stating that while she represented her district in SF (implying that she was being very liberal in representing a very liberal district), she will lead "right down the center" of the Dem caucus.
She then added the following statement: "When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic."
I had heard Pelosi make the same statement in an interview yesterday, so this clearly seems to be a standard part of her defense to the charge that she's too liberal to lead successfully.
I'm not Catholic, but I have to assume that many true "conservative Catholics" will be upset by hearing Pelosi claim that label. It is hard to imagine an authentic conservative Catholic supporting unrestricted abortion, including partial birth abortion, as does Pelosi.
Pelosi failed to vote to ban PBA even when an exception was included for the life of the mother. I think it is thus fair to categorize her as a pro-abortion extremist. Given that record, to go on national TV and call herself a conservative Catholic seems the height of gall and duplicity.
As a sidenote, Pelosi also trotted out what the Dems have apparently decided to make their new theme: "Safety and Soundness," apparently some combination of national security and economic progress. Instant nominee for the "Lamest Political Slogan of the Decade."

These photos say it all about Nancy Pelosi. Every time someone brings up her name, just post the photos. They are all that is necessary to 'say' regarding Nancy Pelosi.

I missed her calling Matt "Charlie." Well, make that two rookie mistakes in one interview!

there is value in seeing what the other side is up to
but, you have to take the pledge that if you must watch the liberal networks you will refuse to buy any product advertised there and you will write a letter to the Federal Communications Commission indicating that the network has displayed extreme bias in its reporting, is no longer in the public interest, and all of its affiliates should have their licenses revoked. ;-)

FYI, "somebody" just posted an item at DU inquiring whether others were concerned by Pelosi's claim to be a conservative Catholic. It will be interesting to see what kind of responses are made.

Free Republic's value lies in the variety of knowledge that gets shared. Thank you for reporting. We all can't see or read everything, but we sure do become aware of most items long before 'the masses.' LOL! Your tidbit may make it to Rush or Hannitty. Who knows!

"Conservative Catholic"
She can call herself anything she likes but the facts are clear. She is a 'left-wing extremist'.

Saying it don't make it so.
If that were true, I'm Bill Gates. Will you cash this check?
To: governsleastgovernsbest
So now I'll call her a liar as well as a liberal.

Someone at DU posted a reply saying she wasn't concerned by Pelosi's statement since JFK also said that his Catholicism wouldn't affect the way he governed, and it didn't.
Perhaps so. But what kind of morally vacuous person could on the one hand claim to be a conservative Catholic and then go out and fight for what conservative Catholicism would consider a horrible abomination?
To: nina0113
Wouldn't that be redundant?

There's the rub. This nonsense has been going on in Massachusetts for thirty years. Kennedy and Kerry have always called themselves Catholics (and the Globe never misses a chance to mention this fact) yet they have never been challenged by the bishop or cardinal here. It's simply nauseating.
GOOD call. Though nowadays, Bernie Law doesn't have the moral authority to call out anyone on anything.

If she's a Catholic, she now needs to go to confession. Quick.Bwhahahhhahah....Too late!! My bet is when the end comes, she's got a nonstop ticket to liberal convention, a classless reunion, waiting for her!

Just more proof that she is not comfortable in her own skin.
In other news, Ms. Pelosi has announced a new tool in the Democrats arsenal of influence:

"When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic."
Now we know why the queer, child-molesting priests get away with their attrocities !!!

Conservative whatever, that reminds me of a fairy tale...
"He quickly put on Grandma's clothes, (of cource he hadn't eaten those.) He dressed hisself in coat and hat. He put on shoes and after that He even brushed and curled his hair, Then sat himself in Grandma's chair. In came the little girl in red. She stopped. She stared. And then she said, 'What great big ears you have, Grandma.' 'All the better to hear you with.' the Wolf replied. 'What great big eyes you have, Grandma.' said Little Red Riding Hood. 'All the better to see you with.' the Wolf replied. He sat there watching her and smiled. He thought, I'm going to eat this child. Compared with her old Grandmamma She's going to taste like caviare.
Then Little Red Riding Hood said, 'But Grandma, what a lovely great big furry coat you have on.' 'That's wrong!' cried Wolf. 'Have you forgot 'To tell me what BIG TEETH I've got? 'Ah well, no matter what you say, 'I'm going to eat you anyway.' The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers. She whips a pistol from her knickers. She aims it at the creature's head And bang bang bang, she shoots him dead."
(from the Roald Dahl version)
I love happy endings!

And it's hard to imagine what new friends it's going to win her, given how obviously untrue it is.This kind of lie can't impress either side. Her liberal friends will be disgusted she's trying to clean up her image with Catholicism since they hate that and Conservatives now know she's a liar.

You are absolutely right! The archbishop should reduce Pelosi's status to 'excommunicated' conservative catholic because of her position on abortion. But he won't.......

"she will lead 'right down the center' of the Dem caucus."Well, that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to the Left.

"Just more proof that she is not comfortable in her own skin."
She's as phoney as that forced fake smile of hers.
