Someone at DU posted a reply saying she wasn't concerned by Pelosi's statement since JFK also said that his Catholicism wouldn't affect the way he governed, and it didn't.

Perhaps so. But what kind of morally vacuous person could on the one hand claim to be a conservative Catholic and then go out and fight for what conservative Catholicism would consider a horrible abomination?

JFK was around before Roe v. Wade, so his views are probably irrelevant as far as abortion is concerned. But let's look at Ted, a "practicing Catholic". He is virulently pro-abortion and that does affect the way he governs. While on Judiciary, he made it a top priority to submarine any judicial appointment that wouldn't support abortion on demand (Bork, e.g.).

Ask DU why they think Teddy belongs to a group whose views he openly advocates against.

I see. But, these same people say we have to be afraid of John Ashcroft's religious beliefs.

I'm so confused...
