WASHINGTON (AP) -- Fresh from their election victory, Senate Republicans on Wednesday confirmed that Sen. Trent Lott will remain their leader when the new Senate convenes in January under GOP control.
Lott, who has led the Senate Republicans since Sen. Bob Dole resigned to run for president in 1996, said security issues -- national security and the economic, health care and retirement security of Americans -- will be his focus when he resumes the role of Senate majority leader that he lost when Democrats took control of the Senate 18 months ago.

Great Picture!! I'm spitting nails. What unbelievable stupidity!
But he added that "it's going to be tough. There will be times when I have to do things the Democrats won't like."
Tough! Tough!? It should be outta the temple you hypocrites.
Spineless jellyfish is right.

The Republicans didn't even have a chance to think before he made them choose!
If Trent is going to keep the job, he'd better show a little more self esteem. It appears he caves to Democrats on everything.
Maybe he sould run on the Democrat ticket and get it over with. If not - work for his base once in awhile.

""You could feel the electricity," at the meeting where the leaders were chosen."
Hope it was one of those Taser belts, strapped to Lots back and wired to a push button in the Oval Office "
LOL!!!! Hope the WH and Republican leadership realizes how much " guidance", Trent is going to need and they have handlers to control him. I'll never forget Trent Lott defending the female B52 pilot,Kelly Flinn, during her court martial.Lott said that the Air Force had abused her and she should be given an honorable discharge-" at a minimum". Lott made a fool of himself on that one.

He (Lott)said he had gone to Daschle Tuesday asking for advice. Ohh pleeaase! Did Churchill go to the Nazi party for advice after WWII?

Lott takes a lot of well-deserved criticism here on FR, but it should be noted that the U.S. Senate is a more cerebral body than the House. As a result, the Senate majority and minority leaders are usually very accommodating, easygoing people.
Look how unpopular Tom Daschle is -- I don't think I've ever seen the guy smile.

I am waiting for Lott to do something Democrats dont like. Seems to me he will bargain away anything to accomplish his supposedly leadership roll.It is as though he has a dual personality at times and I still dont understand the deal with Daschle right after the mid-term here.Could someone please explain.

..........Senate Republicans on Wednesday confirmed that Sen. Trent Lott will remain their leader............ Was anyone else running for the position or did the Pubbies close ranks around Lott?
What was the final tally?
Was it unanimous?
Was the vote secret?
Can I find out what how my Senators voted?

I guess I don't "get" your post. What am I missing?

Unlike Lott, he really plays well on TV. He's quick on his feet, and very articulate.
Lott just mutters soundbites, and talking points...and not very affectively either.
