After MUCH soul searching, and especially after I returned from the local
Veterans Day services yesterday, I have made a decision:

The Canteen is for & about our veteran's AND our young men & women serving
our country in the military. My decision was made AFTER the local services.

After seeing all those young people at the service, helped me make up my
mind(s).

I AM NOT a DEMOCRAT nor a REPUBLICAN.
I entered the Canteen as a vet who
wants to make sure that the previous Vets, and the Young men & women serving
now WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. I hope you ALL can understand this.
When my generation returned from VietNam, they were cursed & spat upon;
called "baby-killers" One of my high-school class-mates paid the ultimate
price.......his name is on The WALL.

Therefore, with my poor resources at humor, I will continue to post on the
Canteen. I don't really care who gets on my case about going "off thread".
We NEED ( I feel), humor every day, to help us cope with stress & everyday
life.

I mean No offense to anyone ( the "regulars" or, as I like to refer to
myself, "slightly-irregular") as I post & break into & off thread, to post a
joke or two.

I will continue to post my jokes daily.

Thank you, Tonk!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!

Especially you, Tonkin, and TomKow.

Yes, Tom, I'm posting here today because the troops need all of our support and they must get it. I am not going to allow the real purpose of this thread be diminished in any way.

Tonkin, I salute you for all your efforts, may God bless you and the troops and all who post and lurk on the canteen.

I was 12, in 1974 when my brother came back from that war. He was in California, and had a few weeks before the official end of his service. He decided to hitch hike home in his uniform, thinking it would re-assure people that he was a clean cut, responsible kinda guy. He was an aircraft mechanic and was planning to provide free mechanic's duty to anyone who picked him up.

He got spit on, had people try to run him down, and in general spent a miserable few days on the side of the road. Finally, he took off his uniform. He was home to Florida within the week. He never told me about this until last year, when he took his honorable discharge papers out of the attic and framed them on his living room wall for his children to see.

He deserved better. Americans owes a debt of gratitude and an apology to you and him and the men who didn't come home, giving their lives in defense of a people who had allowed their culture to sink to that level.

I WILL NEVER SPEND A PENNY OF MY MONEY ON ANY PRODUCT ENDORSED BY JANE FONDA, JESSICA LANGE, WOODY HARRELLSON OR ALEC BALDWIN. They have their right to stand up and say who they are and what they beleive in, and I have the right to utterly reject them. I raise my kids to stand for the Color Guard and the national anthem, knowing that when they stand, when no-one else does, they may attract attention to themselves, but they are standing for a reason. They are standing in honor of patriots. Like you.

We have many, many acquaintances whose names are on the Wall. Six very good friends. My husband lost 22 of his men in one friendly fire incident that still nearly rips his heart out when he talks about it. We visit the Wall every year and make a point of stopping in to honor all who died whenever the travelling Wall is in our area. When all is said and done, we have more friends and acquaintances who made it home than were fallen. We all keep the fallen alive in our hearts and memories. We are not among those who are stereotyped from the Vietnam era. We're proud. We are among the fortunate. Our love for country remains strong. My husband, his friends, his compatriots have never been among the unemployed or homeless....or hopeless. We will always have faith that our Armed Forces will be the best on the planet and will get the job done....because it has to be done.....by every generation. Freedom isn't free. Welcome home.

I love your wacky humor and even your voices - but not your stinky Burka! ;-) hahahaha

Please never stop posting your jokes and graphics here, or wherever you choose.

I hope you will never stop posting your jokes, Tom. I'm sure it's not just Canteeners who get a good laugh but lurkers too from our military. Thank you for the laughs - your wit, sense of humor and dedication is always appreciated. God bless you.
