Next time, it'd be a good thing to pre-position some special ops in there, get intel on their next meeting, and be waiting for them with a little surprise when they show up. One wonders why it's necessary to state the obvious. But apparently it is.

the question is, would large amounts of Saudi cash for payoffs make it easier to get past those checkpoints and patrols?

Its widely known that the Mexican police are easy to bribe or be paid off.

It is amazing what we can learn on Free Republic from Freepers like you.
I knew that Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina had Nazis families, before, during and definitely after WWII.
I was not aware of Nazis families in Columbia.
Thanks for the feedback.
One other question, how about Chili re Nazis and these Islamofascists and Islamakazis living in Chili?
To: Bobby777
Sounds like the Iranians are the funders of this group.
The Opecker Princes probably had other francises of hate and terrorism to fund.

I was in this exact location (Foz do Iguacu, Ciudad del Este, Puerto Iguazu) last July. This particular place has the most beautiful turistic attraction in South America - the Iguassu Falls, however, since it's a tri-country border area, this invites all kind of black market trade. It is a crime ridden area. I drove through some places that I didn't feel comfortable stoping and shopping around. A large number of arabs and chinese. The Brazilian side is the nicest side, with beautiful hotels and resorts, however where the CNN article describes where most of the terrorists live/hide is in Paraguay (Ciudad del Este). I went there once, and never again!!! Perfect place for corruption, crime, mafia, terrorists! You name it!!! I don't see how the local police, our CIA, etc. will ever get a handle on what's going on there! You would have to literally wipe out the place or have the military stationed at each corner!!! The Brazilian and Argentinian governments are the only ones actually trying to be proactive in the terrorism. Several of the badies have left the area and are hiding in Paraguay.

Angelus Errare thanks for find and posting this scary article.
Hey gang! Looks like and sounds like the Mullahs of Hate who control Iran have been seeding hate and spending seed money in this part of S. America.

I lived in Chile many years back - many fewer "German" WWII types than in other South American countries - at the time (pre-communist takeover) htye called themselves the "Yankees" of Latin America - many former British, Irish and other "British Empire" transplants. During WWII Chile tilted much mor toward the Allies and US.

"My instinct tells me there is a natural affinity between Islam and Nazism." Well, you're instincts are correct. The Arab nationalist parties and the Nazi party both grew out of dissatisfaction with the WWI settlement, economic depression, anti-West and particularly anti-British sentiment, as well as anti-Semitism. Arab nationalist groups modeled themselves after the Brownshirts. Sadat was arrested by the British as a Nazi sympathiser. The leader of the Palestinians in the 1940's, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, traveled to Germany to meet Hitler, expressing admiration for his policies toward the Jews. At the beginning of WWII pro-Nazi regimes had to be overthrown in Iraq and Syria. After the war, the Arab nationalist (fascist) parties seized control of Iraq, Syria and Egypt, resuming their authoritarianism and virulent anti-Semitism, gradually transferring their hatred of the British to the U.S.
Iran pioneered grafting Islamicism onto Arab fascism. Al Qaeda did the same on the Sunni side, grafting radical Wahabbism onto Arab fascism. Although Saddam Hussein is an old fashioned fascist, since the time of the Gulf War he has pretended to be an Islamist to save his skin.
We are up against radical Islamic fascism. The "peace movement" in the West, composed mainly of "useful idiots" of the Left, have no idea what they are supporting.

Thanks, that was what I thought.
However, after this about Columbia, I don't really know.

They hate the USA because they can't live here. Same old same old."Axis of Envy"
Also, I think that it is also a way of raising self-esteem. Like if they set themselves up as antagonists of the most important group, they somehow raise themselves up to that level.
I've always felt that what was driving Osama was that by picking the greatest enemy, he increased his importance.

I lived in Chile many years back - many fewer "German" WWII types than in other South American countries. You know, I've heard rumors to the countrary. First, southern Chile was settle by Germans in the late 19th century, they even spoke German in those areas until about the 1960s. Now, of course, it mostly Spanish-speaking, except the names and architecture is still very German.
I've seen pictures of Chileans giving the Nazi salute at funerals of old German expatriates.
But this is my favorite story, told to me by a friend who traveled extensively to Chile. He said that even as late as 1980 you could still see elderly Germans walking the lowland of the Andes with young, tall blond men following closely behind.
Bodyguards?

My only contacts have been Chileans who own fly fishing lodges. They seem to be very capitalistic and pro American.
I can remember my Dad and an uncle saying that we should have followed the Nazis into S. America and arrested them or killed them to eliminate future problems.

They have learned a great deal of bomb expertise in South America from our friends, the IRA. It is refreshing that neither Gerry Adams nor Yasser Arafat have been invited to this administration's White House.

Don't forget the socialist communists just love the "revolutionary" islamofacists and give them aid when possible. Not to mention the anti-Israel ideology.
Americans have plenty of enemies to go around. S.America is also full of commies and then there's Castro - the patron saint and benefactor(when he can afford it) of most all international terrorist orgs.
At least our goooood friends the chicoms have control of both ends of the Panama Canal and a grip on Cuba.
The few decent countries left in S.& Central Am. fear and/or loathe us due to "forced" cultural and fiscal policies via the un with our name attached.
The external enemies of our country have found a lot of sympathy in points South of the border for decades.

There is another side of the coin when it comes to operating in lawless border regions as you describe.
With the correct president in the white house, (which we have), the CIA, Delta, SEALs etc can also operate freely.

Don't forget the socialist communists just love the "revolutionary" islamofacists and give them aid when possible. Not to mention the anti-Israel ideology. Agreed. In my book there isn't a heck of a lot of difference between a Nazi and a Stalinist. A bunch of Nazis seemed to take to East Germany like ducks to water.
Americans have plenty of enemies to go around. S.America is also full of commies and then there's Castro - the patron saint and benefactor(when he can afford it) of most all international terrorist orgs. There sure is a worrisome trend in Latin America - Venezuela and Brazil. I've heard of links between the Colombian rebels and the IRA.
I guess where I come out is that there may be some collaboration on drugs for arms transactions or for a discrete operation, but I don't see Al Qaeda establishing extensive cooperation with atheistic socialists in Catholic Latin America.
