I lived in Chile many years back - many fewer "German" WWII types than in other South American countries.

You know, I've heard rumors to the countrary. First, southern Chile was settle by Germans in the late 19th century, they even spoke German in those areas until about the 1960s. Now, of course, it mostly Spanish-speaking, except the names and architecture is still very German.

I've seen pictures of Chileans giving the Nazi salute at funerals of old German expatriates.

But this is my favorite story, told to me by a friend who traveled extensively to Chile. He said that even as late as 1980 you could still see elderly Germans walking the lowland of the Andes with young, tall blond men following closely behind.

Bodyguards?

My only contacts have been Chileans who own fly fishing lodges. They seem to be very capitalistic and pro American.

I can remember my Dad and an uncle saying that we should have followed the Nazis into S. America and arrested them or killed them to eliminate future problems.
