California Election results for governor
It appears to me that the GOP is consistently losing the statewide offices because of voting in three counties. Virtually the entire state went for Simon with the exception of Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles counties.

From the standpoint of the number of counties taken, Simon did better than Lungren (though the popular vote was much different).
THANK YOU!!!!!
I couldn't have said it better. And, it's nice to know the rest of the country is relatively sane!
I am an early-30's Californian who pulled the lever for the first time for a Republican candidate yesterday, Bill Simon. I was disgusted by the utter corruption of Davis and his hysterical response to the energy crisis, which will have long-term effects on this state for many years. I was also disgusted by the Democrat political rally that masqueraded as a memorial for Paul Wellstone, a man who I believed had integrity, even though I disagreed with most of his political views.
Speaking for myself, I am a fiscal conservative, place a high value on morals and family values and personal honor, believe in personal responsibility, am pro-gun, and reserve my highest admiration for military veterans, even though I did not have the privilege of serving. (And I believe that military service should be a prerequisite of political service.)
I am also an agnostic, however, and believe my own view of morality is a personal choice that should not be imposed on others by force of law (e.g. I do not think homosexuality should be outlawed or discriminated against, even though I can't understand why any guy would want to look at another guy's hairy...but I digress). I am also pro-choice in the first three months and very pro-science.
My question is, "Is this a place for me?" I like to think I'm polite, and intelligent, but I also don't want to be thought of as a disruptor. If you don't think this is the place for me, I'd welcome any suggestions for other political bulletin boards that you may have. Thanks very much for your time.

Get real! You forgot to factor in the unreported kick-backs to special interests.
Oh wait...the high energy bills are his own damn fault...

If you can legislate immorality-- then why can't you legislate morality? You may need a little more time on this earth before you become a believer-- don't quit searching for GOD in you.
I've been thinking the same thing. These guys poured money into Davis' campaign to rescue their control in California.
So, does that mean that the national DNC felt control in California was more critical to maintain than even control in the US Senate? If so, the cash flow suggests that a federal investigation may be needed to sort out the messy accounting processes.
Maybe we should evaluate the funding that went to the various Senate races and compare to Davis' fundraising.
As far as all the complaining about Hispanics in our state, read your history, Hispanics have always been here and they always will be. I spent 8 years working in an industry wich employed primarily Hispanic people, legal and illegal. Most of them come here for a better life. Take a drive down to TJ and tell me that you wouldn't try to get across the border too, if you lived there. I have Hispanic friends who complain much more loudly than I do about the illegals taking the jobs. I work in a poor Hispanic neighborhood, where everyday this guy comes around with a shopping cart, that he's converted into a mobile food stand, he sells corn on the cob, sodas, and he has a block of ice that he uses to make snow cones for people. He technically is a small business owner. The point is he's working. Go to Home Depot and look at all the people waiting to work. Of course, I don't think we should allow illegal immigration, its not fair to those who wait to get here, and its dangerous in light of terrorism. But we are fools to let the dems portray us as racists over this. Hispanics are a rich source of potential Republican conservative votes. But not if we don't make our case to them, and not if make our selves sound racist, by failing to acknowlege why they come here. We should promote our Hispanic candidates as much as possible. I beleive we could make gains in the African American community too. We have to challenge the shrill propagandist hate speech of the demacrat party (promote our black conservative candidates). We have to talk to people about ideas, and keep on talking. At heart, I think most people want to be lifted up and beleive in something, I think they get burned out on all the hate and blame-everybody-but-yourself-for your-problems rap of the dems. We have to keep up the fight.
I don't think it looks good for our state in the next 4 years, we will have to learn the hard way, like the people in New York did, when they elected Rudy Gulliani(after the dems nearly destroyed their state). I'm considering moving. But, I think about what my friend says. He says:"Why should we leave paradise", I mean he's talking about our climate, and our beaches and mountains and deserts ( he moved here from the east coast). So, maybe I'll stay for a while.
Enough said. :-)
In other words, just like Washington, D.C. .
Hogslop!
In other words, "To the contrary!" The California GOP has been dismantled and destroyed by frothing, angry, right-wing wackos who think John McCain was a draft-dodger.
Trent Lott on the other hand is a gelatinous guppy of a man, and an actual draft-dodger.
Let the record show that most of Lake Tahoe is in California and moving to the Nevada side is an olde scheme by cheapskates to avoid paying California automobile license fees.
Always nice to hear from folks like you who live in outerspace. Riordan would have cleaned Davis's clock. That's why Davis spent $9 million to handpick Simple Simon to run against ...and beat. And for your information, the conservatives did stay home yesterday. Check out the vote totals.
I think he would have gained much support, even from many Democrats, if he would have taken a strong stand against the illegal invasion problem in this state. Neither of them would touch this issue. There are many Dems who want a stop to illegal immigration, even many hispanics.
