A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer |

I have been reading FR some this week but not posting much. Where was Daisy Scarlett? I missed news of her... hope she is okay.
The funniest thing happened on a technical discussion mail list that I have been a part of since '96. Someone had a virus that forwarded a message to everyone in his address book... and guess what was forwarded to this mostly liberal group of people!
The "To Be A Democrat" email that has been circulating. That's the one that starts out:
To be a Democrat, you have to believe that ..
1.. The AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.
2.. Trial lawyers are selfless heroes and that doctors are overpaid.
3.. Global temperatures are affected more by a suburban soccer mom driving an SUV than by documented, cyclical variations in the brightness and intensity of the sun.
... and so on.
This list goes ballistic when any conservative posts something about patriotism or conservatism, but in the midst of their replies on technical issues, they feel free to say something like "that calculation is something like Bush's bull-in-a-china shop foreign policy."
Ha! What a post for a virus to spread. The list usually has 100 posts a day or so, but today all was quiet, except for a few people who said it wasn't appropriate to post such inflammatory messages on our list.
The poster and I have agreed before back-channel, and of course today I gave him support and sent some virtual flame retardant. He apologized to the list saying he didn't know how it got posted. That is the equivalent of Wellstone's Campaign chairman apologizing for the Wellstone coffin jubilee. You just can't take it back after it is out there. Don't ya just love it? :-)

So very sorry to hear of today's list of fallen heroes.
May God Bless each and every one of their souls and give comfort to the surviving families. God Bless You, ladtx for bringing us these remembrances every day.

Dad is doing excellent considering the shape his car was in after his accident. It was totalled. How scary M&M....and how fortunate for your Dad! By the grace of God he was able to "walk away" from such a horrible accident!

Just wanted to share my rifle range experience with you all! It was so much fun talking with you after "Glocktoberfest" last weekend, and I really appreciate the information and advice given by all. Well, shortly after that, FreedomPoster made .45MAN and I an offer we couldn't refuse!
To make a long story short, FreedomPoster got in touch with us and offered to let us shoot some of his rifles at a range in Mansfield, GA. .45MAN and I met FreedomPoster, his son and his son's friend for lunch today, then left for the rifle range.
We had a blast....literally! My firearms experience has been strictly with handguns on an indoor range (except for that one time 8 years ago when I fired a 12-gauge, forgot to tighten the butt against my shoulder and wound up on my rear end!!!). .45MAN grew up with rifles and acquired more experience from 8 years in the Air Force, but hadn't fired a rifle in many years.
FreedomPoster gave me the invaluable experience of firing an AK-47, an M-14 and an FAL rifle I've forgotten the name of (sorry, FP!). I loved the M-14. I fired 20 rounds at approximately 100 yards and put all but one through the target. I fired 30 rounds through the FAL rife and didn't do too badly, but not as accurately as with the M-14. The AK-47 was a trip! It had a very light action and not nearly as much recoil as I had expected.
We can't thank FreedomPoster enough. He gave us the generosity of the use of his weapons, targets and ammunition. We hope to be able to repay him sometime. Plus, we really enjoyed the company of his son and son's friend. They are two extremely delightful people to be around.
{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}} to all! And, to quote blackie, that FReeper of amazing ***energy***, Molon Labe!

So glad you two are safely home, dansangel!
Just received word of the death this afternoon of a friend of 30 years in North Carolina.
We now have another angel named Pete up there watching over us.
Another reminder to keep in touch with all the special persons in your life, and be sure to let them know how you feel about them.

Meek, I don't have a clue as to how I missed all the goings on with your Dad. It sure does sound like he had an angel in the car. I'm so glad he's healing. May God be with him and with all your family.

Amen to that Maggie. I just found out yesterday afternoon that a good friend passed away on Oct 13 and I didn't even know about it. Missed his funeral and I'm really upset about it. It was in the local paper but somehow I missed seeing the obit. and nobody called me. The family wondered where I was at the funeral. That makes me feel so guilty and actually angry at the same time. Some one could have called me to let me know. OTOH I should read the paper more closely. I'll go visit his widow next week. Her son is home with her now.

We will be glad to have daisy back, but I'm not sure that daisy will be so glad. :)
Billie are you still mad at me? I sure hope not. I didn't mean to mess up your plans and I'm sorry.
