Anyone else question the use of "YOUR" children??? If an American were to make this statement we wouldn't use YOUR... we would just say "Children are not safe anywhere...

It's not odd to me. If you're sending a message to Mr. and Mrs. Normal, you're going to refer to "YOUR children."

Hmmmm... could also be a poke at those busybodies who always refer to "our children." (It'd make him a militia nutjob, probably...)

I agree... Regardless of how he may or may not have attained his position, the fact remains that he is there and is having to deal with this situation. What people need to stay focused upon is the fact that we have a shooter, and we have victims. We need to catch the shooter and try to prevent any more victims - a balancing act that has proven to be difficult at best and (could be) next to impossible at worst.

Regardless of personal feelings about Chief Moose, people need to be praying for the man, all those working this case, the surviving victims, the families of all victims, AND the quick solving of this case.

This is no time for armchair quarterbacking. As grandmother used to say: "Don't criticize them until you've walked a mile in their shoes..."

An internationally recognized advocate and lecturer on the philosophy and implementation of community policing.
Instituted a Crisis Intervention Team of specially trained officers on call to defuse situations involving persons with mental illness in a crisis warranting police response. Arranged for the professional mental health community to provide training to officers at no cost.
Developed Crisis Response Team concept to better respond to victims, families and community members after violent crime. The response team consists of officers and community volunteers. Teams are assigned to critical areas and include teams within the Hispanic, Asian, and sexual minority communities.
Hired and trained civilian desk clerks to allow 42 uniformed officers to be reassigned to patrol duties.
In 1997, established a General Order on less than lethal force to allow the capture of armed and violent suspects without using deadly force.
Opened a day care center on the first floor of the Justice Center for Police employees' children.
In 1998, conducted the third National Community Policing Conference with over 500 participants from 30 states and five countries. The conference provided participants with insight on how to measure and enhance current community policing programs.
Developed a standing metro area law enforcement pursuit agreement which covers issues regarding conditions under which pursuits can be initiated, notification to media and other agencies, supervisory control and other issues. The Portland Police Department serves as host and facilitator for this metro area executive group.

Those numbers say nothing about reporting and solution rates. They DO say that if you ain't a frquent flyer, the cops can't find you.

This: http://www.detnews.com/2002/metro/0201/04/d01-382169.htm says Detroit's murder solution rate is up to a whopping 64% (in contrast with D.C., where it is 49% - a better than even chance of getting away with murder).

Good, succinct statistics are hard to come by. But reporting rates for property crime are VERY low.

Good point about the use of "your" children. I don't think this is a nut case, and somehow I don't think it's Al Qaeda either, although that is who people want to think it is. I just think after it's all over we will be seeing some drastic changes in gun laws.
