This is very sad. Prayers to the family.

Even if the sniper demanded money, that does not mean it isn't a terrorist.

While I lean towards terrorists, the sniper could also be
1. a member of the many Oriental gangs or the ultraviolent Salvadorian gangs in the area.
2. one of the greedy folks who file frivolous lawsuits (anything for a buck) but failed to collect the millions he expected.

If it were just about money, he would be way ahead by filing lawsuits. You can make millions for being a victim (no matter that the defedant was not at fault) or for being stupid and hurting yourself. Having a dead relative is a slam dunk in the lawsuit community.

I'm not sure who is doing this, and I am not ruling out ME terrorists. However, I'm inclined to think that you're right--it's our own. Quite possibly environmental whackos with a sympathy to AQ and anything against America. I heard over the weekend that one our prisoners mentioned using snipers to scatter terror throughout the US, but decided against it as not efficient enough. They prefer killing a lot more at one time. I tend to think that is right, but who knows?

I don't mean to harp on this but I have started a website called sniperwatch.com. Volunteers watch the traffic cams and log any suspected vehicles to a database available to law enforcement.

The more volunteers, the better chance we have to stop this bastard.

Knowing that area from my days at Indianhead and USSS I'm going to suggest they are going to have to trip on this killer to find him/her. Unless someone actually sees the shooter running or driving away and uses the ballistic coefficent of their automobile or automatic pistol to wound, delay or kill the POS......... Half a million will replace even the nicest SUV used properly IMHO.

If they're foreign born, and are here on any sort of visa, they should be deported NOW. No questions, pack your bag Abdul, that soldier standing there with a rifle will escort you to the airport or dock you leave America from.

If they're foreign born naturalized citizens who have left a documentable anti-American paper trail, they should be stripped of their citizenship and deported to the stink-hole they came from NOW.

If they are native born, but have left a documentable anti-American paper trail, they should be interned NOW.

If they're native born, and have kept their noses clean, they should be watched closely.

One of my favorite reporters said last night that a key reason why Ch. Moose wanted to continue to engage the murderer was to keep him from shooting. Tie up his time and efforts into negotiations. I was so angry that I was shaking. I meant to come in this morning and e-mail them that this one, normally excellent reporter, had possibly cost someone or some people their lives. This man was shot before I had the chance to send my message. I don't know whether or not this one comment had anything to do with anything, but it was among the most irresponsible statement I've ever heard on news coverage.

I agree. This guy is a sociopath who has read too many police procedural, serial killer novels. Voice modulator, tarot cards, taunting notes to the feds. I wouldn't doubt that he is following a favorite book right now.

Actually, I think it's entirely consistent with this killer, but not because he wants any money. He seems to enjoy playing a cat-and-mouse game with the police where he holds all the power. By laying down a demand that he knows the police will not meet and threaten the lives of children if it is not (and he knows Moose values children), he is just enhancing his own power trip.
