I've gained quite a bit of respect for Whiney Joe lately. First the Iraq resolution, now this.

Well now, he needs to introduce a bill on the Senate floor and get some co-sponsors. Otherwise, he's just spouting.

Wait a minute. Didn't Sharpton or somebody say the tax cuts are racist? At any rate it looks like the Democrats are going to have to rethink thier transparent menu. Those in the lower ranks that have made the grade see their old party as a liability.

The Republicans need to give Lieberman what he wants. However, this will never get through the Democratic controlled senate!!!

Sure, he "called for sweeping tax cuts." The question is, will he actually VOTE for them on the floor.

Wow. I am impressed. Joe has gained a measure of respect in my estimation. Who knows, maybe he can bring a few other Dems over with him and they can pass this thing. I like it, the WSJ will like it, Americans will like it, Let's do it.

Look at Jerry Brown in 1992. He came within a whisker of the nomination over Clinton, running on a 12% flat tax.
We should look upon this as a favorable development that will hopefully push Bush to the Right.

There was not a media black-out on Lieberman's statements. There was a significant difference between AP and NewsMax/Limbacher as to what Lieberman actually stated.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Just another LIEberman waffle!! Remember all the position changes he went through for Gore?
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Lieberman trying to take a different tack from Gore and Daschle
Might as well if he wants a shot at being Prez

"What I'm really asking for is that we take the next phase of the Bush tax cuts that haven't gone into effect yet," said Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., "and take those tax cuts, which will effect the top two percent of the country, and recycle them; redirect them and bring them forward into business tax cuts." Oh, Joe just wants to repeal the rest of the Bush tax cuts and replace them with something else more to his liking. That makes more sense. I don't see any new tax cuts here.

Wait a minute! I am confused. I keep thinking about all the time Demoncrats in the 2000 election kept saying that Clinton's tax increase in 1993 led to the economic boom of the 1990's. Doesn't that mean that Lieberman needs to be calling for a tax increase to get the economy moving?
"What I'm really asking for is that we take the next phase of the Bush tax cuts that haven't gone into effect yet," said Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., "and take those tax cuts, which will effect the top two percent of the country, and recycle them; redirect them and bring them forward into business tax cuts."
snip...
"The president didn't cause the economic problems but he's not given the leadership to get us out of them," Lieberman told WABC. "And he's contributed to them with a tax cut last year that he pushed through that was just larger than we can afford."
Let's get this straight now. We need to take the Bush tax cuts, that are too large to "afford," and rework them around to be tax cuts that Lieberman likes. But if they are too large to be afforded, how can we give the cuts to someone else? At least Lieberman recognizes that we are overtaxed, he just disagrees with who gets the cut. At least Bush's plan goes to every individual in proportion to how much tax they already pay.
I think we should have Lieberman's tax cut ON TOP OF the cut already provided. The interesting thing is that, since I am married, one earner, with no children and no capital intensive business, the only benefit I get directly is from the 10% rate introduced by the Bush tax cut. But, unlike most of the people addressed by the Demoncrats, I am not interested in what I can get directly - I want a booming economy that will provide opportunities for me and all other Americans.

I am impressed. Joe has gained a measure of respect in my estimation I agree with those expressing skepticism at these words. Watch what people do, not what they say. Let him sponsor a bill, let him tirelessly campaign for its passage. Then when it passes, let us congratulate him. In that order, and on those conditions.

Don't be! This is Joe going back to pre-Sore/Loserman Joe. Joe had gone back on everything he had ever stood for during the 2000 election, now he is trying to go back again!
To: CholeraJoe
He's 'all for' what ever he needs to advance his own politcal carear. Which ever way the wind blows. Respect? Short memory?
