Just some quick advice about buying a gun. Shoot many before deciding on one. I got a .45 and wish I got a 9 mm.

I've been considering it for a while now. It's just time to protect myself and my property. And we have CCW in Michigan...

valleygirl - stay safe and stay well. I start this thread each morning with the profound hope that it will be a safe day in the Beltway area; sadly that hope is dashed today.

Well, I have a .22 pocket pistol, .32, 2-3 .357s for collection sake, a .45 colt, my personal carry gun because of the knock down power, a Glock 9mm that I use for training and qualification because it shoots so smooth, and a 12 guage pump S&W for home safety. And I don't even belong to the NRA. Just had my life threatened enough over the years that I felt better armed to the hilt. Still do.

"I think the shooter stays close to the event. He's not getting on the highway or if he is he isn't staying on it for more than a minute or so."

Many of us have been saying that trying to immediately run by way of the freeways and major highways would be the most risky method of escape, so I think you are right.

Also, we seem to now have proof that the shooter was still in the area of the Richmond suburbs after the massive roadblock went into effect in response to the Ashland shooting. If reports are correct, he called police from a payphone in the area to tell them of the note he left on a tree in the wooded area after they failed to find it.

...my gut tells me the shooter is staying within the area...

Interesting theory. There could also be more than one shooter which would account for the wide area of the shootings and the 'quality' of the shots. They shoot and go back to their house/apt.

It could be that the most violent members of this theoretical "cell" are better marksmen. This is, of course, PURE SPECULATION on my part but I would like to see if the shootings that were close to each other have different "signatures" in terms of the 'quality' of the shots -- were they kill shots or wound shots?

"...we *know* McVeigh acted *without* M.E. assistance, right?"

LOL...that's the way the Vast LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd insists on portraying it, despite boucoups evidence to the contrary.

I'm wondering if the poster who said Ashcroft announced re-opening of OKC could respond where he heard that. I'm sure you would have heard GirlShortstop - Freepers don't let much get past them.         Right on that Peach... wondering if the Sniper attacks has others as distracted as I!

Shoot many before deciding on one.

My brother (he's a probation officer and deputy) says the same thing.

No need to case out the place for several days, he's quite familiar with the area.

Quite likely he lives nearby.

9mm has minimal recoil, generally very reliable.

might wanna try a 38 or 357 for comparison - one might 'fit' you better than another.

12ga for those middle of the night noises when your aim might not be so great.
rumor has it, those barrels can be cut waaaaay down

I have been trying to keep up with these threads and am not sure if this has been mentioned.

Is it possible that this person could be getting away through underground sewer systems?

I'm sure the police thought of it, but it seems the only logical way he disappears so quickly.

Maybe it's money AND the release and safe passage of somebody in particular?

Guantanamo?

I was looking at the photo of the bus on Fox News's website and it struck me as rather sad and mournful that the bus's marquee says 'Not In Service.'

It really is sad. When I see that this was a bus attack I automatically think in terms Palestinian attacks on buses in Israel. I hope that wasn't the threat in the letter.

If you have never shot before, I would recommend a 380, or 9mm. Easy to shoot. Easy to control. Not as much knock down power as a .40 or .45 but hey, the object is to throw some lead. As much and as accurately as possible. I say 9mm because of control. I once had an investigator that worked for me that could shoot 95-100% with the 9mm, but he got a .40 cal, and couldn't shoot better than 70%. Just a matter of control. Control and accuracy is more important than knockdown/kill power. Knockdown/kill power doesn't help if you can't hit the target.
