If you have never shot before, I would recommend a 380, or 9mm. Easy to shoot. Easy to control. Not as much knock down power as a .40 or .45 but hey, the object is to throw some lead. As much and as accurately as possible. I say 9mm because of control. I once had an investigator that worked for me that could shoot 95-100% with the 9mm, but he got a .40 cal, and couldn't shoot better than 70%. Just a matter of control. Control and accuracy is more important than knockdown/kill power. Knockdown/kill power doesn't help if you can't hit the target.
