On the other hand, release of the info makes it much more likely that someone will recognize the shooter as a person whom they know. Following your logic, should the identity of the sniper be kept secret even after he is arrested, tried, and hung?
To: rintense
Exactly...I am thinking that the sniper saw what happened to those poor suckers yesterday, realized that that is what LE had planned for HIM, and now it's FU!

count me in!! I am currently unemployed and hav muco time on my hands. If I were able to carry, I would voulenteer today.

That's what I kept thinking, but NO it IS GRAND Pre...connects Connecticut extended with BEL Pre..very confusing..
To: rintense
Well, as former LE myself, I have always packed. Still do, and will always. Don't always carry on person, but it is always within reach. Thankfully here in Oklahoma, we have concealed/carry laws. With a permit, we can carry. It does help. At least I have a fighting chance if necessary.

Interesting analogy just came to mind - smallpox vaccinations. If you vaccinate the general populace, you are condemning at least some to death from the vaccination. Here, the same "dilemma". If you announce its jihadists, you may condemn some innocent Muslim Americans to death. Wonder if some of the same folks (Tom Ridge and other Homeland Security players?) have significant input in to both conversations.

Typical vulture-me first mentality of the media. There's an old saying in the news business: "If it bleeds, it leads."
The more sensational something is, the bigger the feeding frenzy there is to get something, anything to feed the ravenous beast.
Don Henley wasn't far off the mark in "Dirty Laundry."

I'm wondering if the poster who said Ashcroft announced re-opening of OKC could respond where he heard that. I'm sure you would have heard GirlShortstop - Freepers don't let much get past them.

Good morning, Peach. I just woke up to this. My husband was up earlier and watching TV, but didn't tell me.
I can't begin to express my feelings on the computer. My sister is right there!!. Bel Pre Rd. is not far and this is where I grew up. I haven't reached her yet. I have to take the kids to school.
I feel quite shakey (yea, I'm in tears). Prayers for this man's family as I know they just said he's died. I hope I don't know him or the family. He's very close to my age. Going to the prayer thread.
Will be back.

All the guys I've spoken with say to get a shotgun. But I want a handgun. Guess I'll just have to try a few.
To: rintense
I am going to start looking for a gun, my first, this weekend.I'm starting to consider the same thing...

sad and mournful that the bus's marquee says 'Not In Service.' yet another reminder that we need prayers isn't it?
To: Peach
I think it was poster 'David'...

MSNBC is still reporting that the victim is in critical condition, I guess that are not in touch with their correspondent at the hospital scene.

Not having fully read this thread my thoughts are as follows:
- Sniper (who is meticulous) went through great pains to make a phone call that was untraceable
- The police said 'we can't understand you' which pissed him off
- He didn't call them back with a phone, he immediately shot another victim
I think they tried to get a second call thereby creating the potential for a mistake and the sniper responded with a solid 'up yours'. It's my impression the sniper is in control.

"I've heard both McVeigh and Unibomber refered to." Good...I've still not heard the UniBomber's name mentioned by anyone other than Rush.
"I truly can't believe Rita Cosby contacted David Berkowitz for a statement about the sniiper."
When they broke that story yesterday, Rita left the distinct impression that she was contacted by Berkowits outta the blue...they showed the letter with the NY Prison reurn address and the postmark. Did she actually contact "Son of Sam" before that?!
If so, I agree with you...MUD

Grand Pre? He heh he... That's Bel Pre Road...Check the map - Grand Pre parallels Georgia Ave. between the shopping center and the Connecticut/Bel Pre intersection.
