I now agree with you about Chief Moose. I have asked those who would poke fun at his diction to lay off. He is under incredible pressure, and doing an excellent job of standing up to the media.

Ari Fleischer he isn't, and maybe other people in the deptartment have toungues a bit more silver than his, but I am old enough to know that many of those with the silver toungues are not the most dependable under stress and challenge.

Just my 2 cents. Chief Moose has my support and my prayers. We Americans have all kinds of accents, dialects, and idiosyncracies of speech. Those from Maine have a hard time understanding those from Georgia, but we all pledge alliegance to the same flag, which stands for something far greater than any of us individually.

It is a time of pulling together, or hanging separately.

NewsMax (I know, not always reliable) is reporting the letter from the sniper threatened extreme violence and WUSA-TV's reporter David Statter says "the genie is out of the bottle".

You missed my point. I was not saying "don't defend ourselves." Hell, I have a house full of guns. I was not saying "line up in the streets and let him shoot us". My point was, did you really need to hear Moose read the threating statement to know that we are being threatening? No one needed that. I am just saying we cannot let him play us. That is what he is doing. Please, again, understand, I am not suggesting we give in and give up. I am just saying, by giving in to his demands is giving up. Do you think that if we do as he says and demands that he will keep his word? Do we really think we can trust a shooter who hides in the darkness and shoots unarmed, defenseless citizens. He is the epitomy of cowardess. Do you really think he will keep his word? I can tell you, that one that is willing to kill is not going to be chained by honor and truthfulness.

I have to disagree about the "was anyone so naive to believe that they were safe". I was on a thread least night discussing that very point. Many were indicating that sooner or later we have to deal with all this, so keep the schools open, etc etc etc.

I was mentioning "could it be possible that there was a threat of hostages, harm to children or whatever and THAT was why schools were closed. It is amazing how people do not hear what is said, do not think beyond their next complaint.

To me - people need to stop, think of the possibilities that are being presented to the police. Put yourself in the position of Chief Moose and the authorities and consider how best to handle those possibilities to get the best solution and keep people safe.

The authorities are not stupid, they are not sitting on information, they are dealing with these threats, they are trying everything possible to catch these guys.

Now before they complain - think a minute and consider that maybe there is more going on than we even guess at. Then things begin to fall into place.

Ex. - why the schools were closed yet people were up in arms that the police were overreacting.

Now this statement was read - why? Because the threat is so serious, there is so much confusion about children and their activities that the answer becomes - the parents have to know what the sniper has said so they can make the best possible decisions about what their children can and cannot do. Yet, the decision not to reveal all details - why? Panic? Rage of sniper? Following instructions?

We just have to realize our need to know all does not serve our best interests many times - especially now.

If you are still here, there was a man ME, who was DEPORTED for terrorist activity. He happened to be responsible for the infrastructure of all public schools in the DC area, I think. Parents and teachers should form a 200 yard perimameter around schools before and during the times kids will be outside. I hope they catch this evil pile of crap soon and his limbs get ripped from his body by the parents of the kids he has threatened.

Some yahoo on one of the news channels last night was actually stating that the schools were forced to close because so many parents were just not sending their kids anyway

Prepare for these attacks to spread across the country for one of two reason...

1. This is AQ or another foreign terrorist group and the test wave of sniper attacks to study our response.

2. Whether it's a foreign terrorist or not, our under belly has been shown, and if terrorists are watching, they see an inexpensive way to terrorize our people and halt our free life style.

Many times, Chief Moose and members of the media who may know more than they are telling have let the plural pronoun "they" slip out in their speech. We have also heard that the killer is said to have some kind of accent (even audible with the voice changer?) on the recording, and we know that the three-page note was written in "threadbare English."

It really looks like "they" are not American. Obviously, we need to rule out this French guy. I assume the note is being pored over for "Frenchisms," as speakers often interject grammatical forms from their mother tongue into their foreign writing.

What really has me puzzled is the demand for money! Why? How? This doesn't seem to fit the killer's MO for sure. Did he give exact wiring instructions? To which bank in which country? That must have given away SOMETHING to the LE. He sure as heck didn't ask for a bag of unmarked bills to be left anywhere; as said earlier on this thread, he would have to spend that in the afterlife! It just doesn't make sense.
