I would rather see the Nasty Moose than this beaten down Moose we see today.

So do you lie and tell him "no" so he gets to tell you the news, or do you say "yes" and add even more details? I kinda need to know to save the communication in my marriage. ;)

Moose acts like his FBI files have been purused
seriously, when Moose cried at the 13 yr old's shooting
me thinks Moose had intructions and the media badgered
them...result,shot child, now Moose could care less the media's feelings, Moose ain't gonna be "to blame' again
at least in Mooses' head...imo

Sounds like a winner - put me on that ping list when it's up and running.

Truthfully - I think we all could use a good, hearty laugh right now.

The shooter usually uses a wooded area for cover .. they should be staking out these areas if they can

Whole lotta wooded area from Maryland to southern Virginia. Even if you took care only to post people in sections off major highways, there probably aren't enough cops in the region to do such a thing. Besides, if you staked out THIS type of area or THAT type of area, the shooter would just change his MO. Sitting around waiting for the guy and hoping that you've anticipated where, in his very broad range, he'll hit next is a useless reactive tactic, IMO.

I had leaned towards a homegrown nutcase until I read the following article last night. IMO, it seems to be the best arguemnt for these shootings being ME terrorist related, and perhaps with a homgrown nutcase helper.

Earlier today the link was not working and I thought the article was moved to archives, but it seems to be working now. Militant Muslims Seek Virginia Base

If for some reason the link doesn't work, I posted the whole article HERE in post #89.

In honor of our childhoods....remember when....

Growing Up In The 50's

Were you a kid in the Fifties or earlier? Everybody makes fun of our childhood! Comedians joke. Grandkids snicker. Twenty-somethings shudder and say "Eeeew!" But was our childhood really all that bad?

Judge for yourself:

In 1953:

The US population was less than 150 million - yet you knew more people then, and knew them better.

And that was good.

The average annual salary was under $3,000 - yet our parents could put some of it away for a rainy day and still live a decent life.

And that was good.

A loaf of bread cost about 15 cents - but it was safe for a five-year-old to skate to the store and buy one.

And that was good

. Prime time meant I Love Lucy, Ozzie and Harriett, and Lassie - so nobody'd ever heard of ratings or filters.

And that was good.

We didn't have air-conditioning - so the windows stayed up and half a dozen mothers ran outside when you fell off your bike.

And that was good.

Your teacher was either Miss Matthews or Mrs. Logan or Mr. Adkins - but not Ms. Becky or Mr. Dan.

And that was good.

The only hazardous material you knew about - was a patch of grassburrs around the light pole at the corner.

And that was good.

Most families needed only one job - meaning Mom was home when school let out.

And that was good.

You loved to climb into a fresh bed - because sheets were dried on the clothesline.

And that was good.

The 50's People generally lived in the same hometown with their relatives -so "child care" meant grandparents or aunts and uncles.

And that was good.

TV was in black-and-white, but all outdoors was in glorious color.

And that was certainly good.

Your Dad knew how to adjust everybody's carburetor - and the Dad next door knew how to adjust all the TV knobs.

And that was very good.

Your grandma grew snap beans in the back yard and chickens behind the garage.

And that was definitely good.

And just when you were about to do something really bad, chances were you'd run into your Dad's high school coach, or the nosy old lady from up the street, or your little sister's piano teacher, or somebody from church. ALL of whom knew your parents' phone number And YOUR first name.

And even THAT was good!

I wouldn't disagree. But they need a "press office" "public relations" type of guy. Someone who is articulate, sharp, strong, non emotional, professional type to lead these press conferences. The investigators can tell him what needs to be said, and leave it at that. He can field questions regarding areas that he spoke to give clarification. But don't tell him more than he needs to know to make the statement. These open-ended press conferences are just making them look stupid. And really, rule number 1... If you don't have anything instructive/constructive/necessary to say, then keep your mouths shut. Don't hold press conferences.

The murderer may also be requesting that Chief Moose be the 'front person' during the press conferences/briefings.

You're right about all LE's needing prayer .... (goes without saying that we're also praying for victims and their families)....let's remember the families of the LE group too....

I will be home, by myself, for a whole weekend soon. I plan on turning on both tv'S T fox and staying here on FR all day.:) (I can't tell my family that those are my plans, however!)

Just mentioned plaster casts of footprints taken.

How close to martial law for the DC area. Pretty close anyway. Total Lockdown. Won't find the killer(s) but at least stop the killings.

FYI - Wolf Blitzer just mentioned killer or KILLERS!

"It gets really bad when there is breaking news and everyone is home."

Fortunately, I work at home and I'm supposed to be in front of the computer all day long! :)

But I will be going through withdrawal as I travel all day tomorrow.

"I would disagree on one thing .30. In all law enforcement training, even most sniper training, we were trained to shoot for center mass."

Old Rules. That doctrine was developed before body armor became so cheap and readily available. The cops may be living in the past but you don't kill bad guys any more with body shots from a handgun--the round is too slow to penatrate. For self defense, you either have a 12 guage and shoot for the body mass or if you have a handgun, you have enough practice to put the round in his left eyeball.

I am even coming around to the view that my Ruger .22 is the most effective handgun I own--I can knock the head off a fast moving mouse with a single shot at 25 feet every time. If forced to choose between a body shot with a .357 and the eyeball with the .22, the .22 might be a better choice if the bad guy is wearing body armor.

The shooting today was a slap at Moose ....the shooters went back to his county....that's big.

I also think it's very telling that he attacked someone on a bus. He's already managed to shut down the schools, empty out shopping centers. Is he sending a message that commuters are next? Is he trying to frighten the public so they'll be afraid to venture out to work on buses and trains? Afraid to leave their children? I keep thinking about that tarot card that surfaced in the arab newspaper last week -- the one with the words "curfew" written out in bullets.

I KNOW what you mean. I've had that happen to me, too. Most folks would think of a million other things to do when given that opportunity.

No - not me - it's - tune into Fox and FR!!

I must be sick!! LOL

I'm right with you; my kids and family and friends have blown me off for YEARS about being a news junkie and computer geek (you know, they whine and say, "You stay on that computer all the time, but since you're here, can you fix my printer?)

On 9-11, ALL of my "kids" (my niece, my nephew, and my two stepdaughters) called me by 10 A.M. and wanted to know EVERYTHING I knew about the entire world in ten minutes.

Now they don't think I'm a nut; however, my nephew has said on numerous occasions that he will have a computer monitor at my funeral so "all your friends can be there." :-)
