They can get the cell tower location easily. But they can't point to the phone without very special antennas. It would be like tracking a tagged animal, only harder.

Maybe, maybe not. Some digital systems can tringulate the phone's location. There are plans on the boards for systems that will locate the phone within 10 feet. People lost in the woods have been located by their cell phone.

CNN just replayed it, and I think I've got it right this time.

The person you called could not hear everything that you said. The audio was unclear and we want to get it right. Call us back so we can clearly understand.

I'm not prepared to speculate on what it means, but I wonder who he is calling? Somebody high up in the administration, I'm sure.

I still believe the PERP left a cell phone for the COPS to have...that WAY the perp CALLS the "cell phone number" of his choice...and the PERP is using a "disposable" cell phone too...and once he is done he throws it away...

The cell phones are a CHEAP and UNTRACEABLE source especially IF the phones the PERP is using is being THROWN away after "one use"...

The "pay phone" this morning PROVES to America the police are "quick" to get to a "land line phone"...but they won't be quick to "trace" a disposable cell phone...especially if it is ONLY USED ONCE!!!

I think there was a report further back that we planned to send some of them to Pakistan (in other words, before the shooting started).

Still, I think it's very possible that this is a terror campaign to get a particular individual - perhaps the appealingly nicknamed "Sword of God" - released.

LOL - The cable stations keep rehashing the same events over and over and over again. If they could turn the paper backward and say it in front of a mirror they would as a new news story. The guy from CNN was in that wooded area for at least half the day. I think he was afraid to leave it because someone else would jump in there. He was protecting it like some other newschannel was going to jump in his spot.

Here's an alternate theory (tinfoil optional):

The perp records a message on a cheap cassette recorder. He goes to the pay phone that we saw this morning, dials the number, and punches "play" on the cassette deck... then drives away and blends in with everyone else.

The unsuspecting illegals drive up to the same pay phone, and the LEOs see the white van and jump to conclusions.

That would explain why the audio was bad. In fact, Moose's use of the word "audio" is very strange... of course Moose's use of most any word is very strange.

What the shooter probably has is a disposable cell phone. I think the late OBL's gang has gone to using them. They discovered that we could track them by regular cell phones, but ones that are used once and disposed of are very hard to track down. You can buy them for next to nothing at Target, Walmart, etc.
