Beltway Sniper attempted contact last night !

Very short press conference where he simply states that the Beltway Sniper attempted contact and Chief Moose requested that he call them back.

"Who said anything about finding the message in the woods"

I heard a reporter CALL in to FOX and said the message was found in the woods. (I heard this, darn-it)

The only phone number that comes to mind that the person might have left that he can "call them back"..is "CALL 911"

The shooter might have told them on the note to call 911, taunting them.

About the other threat. Maybe the phone number left behind was Chief Moose's daughter's or some other personal number (I don't know if Moose has a daughter). Regardless, this is the biggest break in the case so far. Once the sniper starts talking, the cops will be able to track the guy down.

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting take on Chief Moose. I tend to agree with its defense of the chief.

I think he mixed up his message... Most police agencies have telephone number information that identifies at what address a phone number is...

Wow marajade, you are now 1000% smarter than Chief Moose!

I also wondered why no reporter would ask if the cops were using DMV records to search for these types of vehicles. I'd think they'd have least searched rental car agencies.

But this is never dicussed. While the same press would ask Rumsfield, "exactly when are we going to attack Iraq, how will it proceed, and what are the routes the planes will fly"?

Whatever. The whole conference was dictated by the sniper. Not just Moose, but the entire LE capability of the US is now being ridiculed.

Anyone else getting as PO'ed as me?

Only when he says "new-cue-lar". Jimmy Carter was way worse though. Bush has "Nuclear" down now. Jimmy still can't say it.

I think Chief Moose is being instructed what to say by the feds. But what's unusual is that he came out and made this statement on Sunday evening, before he had a chance to consult with federal officials after they returned to work after the weekend on Monday.

Fox is saying the authorities are asking them to not try and understand the message. They just want them to play it repeatedly.

Ironicly, this is the same thing that the DNC has been telling the press regarding their 2002 election platform...

You know perhaps Moose knows exactly what he is doing and saying. I think the guy comes across as pretty smart...

ROTFLMAO

Now I understand about the tarot card and message. It was meant to be a I.D.between caller and police, something no one else would know,it would give the caller credibility.I do not think this is alocal nut job. They want something and not only that, they may have something bigger as a bargaining chip to try and get what they want. This could be way more serious than it appears folks.

I beg to differ. Patty Ann Brown has fat legs. That's why she hardly ever shows them.

They look just fine to me in those leather boots with her mini-skirt thing. Linda Vester is bugeyed all the time and I can't look at her legs with those eyes blinding me.

I heard that, too, spectre...but only once. Then the cops told the reporters to stifle it.

I don't think Moose can scratch his fanny without permission from the Feds. This phone tag thing sounds very bad. Wonder what the perp's been asking for, and if that's why the Feds won't release the notes?

I see if a criminal ridicules a police officer that gives FReepers the right to ridicule a police officer...bet it would be different if the guy was white...

"Maybe the sniper knows about the new Fox movie coming out about the sniper who calls people on phone booths, and tells them not to hang up or they'll be shot. The sniper wants a cop to stand waiting in the booth..."

Do you think we could get ex-D.C. detective Ted Williams to go to that phone booth? Oh please, oh please, oh please?
