Two floors of the 19-story Atwood Building were evacuated Thursday morning after a man parked his blue Mercedes near the building's entrance, doused the car with gasoline and set it ablaze.

Name noted and filed. Thought that Tataboline might be an Alaskan native name, but a check of the tribes and first names didn't reveal anything even close. If you do a search for Tata and Alaska, a large number of results will appear. I did find a first name of Tata and one of Bollin, whatever use that may be. I once read that a woman named her daughter Cellardoor because she liked the sound of the words. Maybe Ta's (that's her nickname) Mom just liked the sound of it.

You men want an easy way out. Work on your marriages more, and you won't have to deal with these problems in the first place. Does that include the times that women in a marriage are impregnated by other men and then decide to get a divorce so they can go out at night and "party" even more?

I'm not divorced, not married and don't have any children. I may have a more long-term perpective on divorce than you do, though, because my grandparents were divorced. I have a pretty thorough understanding of what it does to the children involved.
What you don't want to face is the fact that sometimes we have to pay a long-term price for serious mistakes in judgment. Instead of trying to prevent others from making the same mistakes, you are advocating a band-aid, feel good solution that will most likely aggravate the underlying problem--the failure to sustain lifelong, committed marriages. There's just no way around the fact that such marriages are the bedrock of a healthy society.

It is divorce more than anything else which invites the state to interfere in areas in which it has no business, and in which it more likely to do harm than good. I actually agree with you, though you may not like the reasons why. I happen to think that because of the current legal conditions for men in this country, that they would be FOOLISH to consider marriage at all.
Marriage and children are largely a free pass for the State to remove a man's rights. A man unmarried and childless like myself, can only empathize with those men being taken to the cleaners by a spouse, and I advise every man I meet AGAINST marriage, until the laws change.
This will likely take a generation of women not finding husbands (and understanding why they cant) before something is done. The only things that can protect a man from a scornful woman these days is a vasectomy, and a refusal to consider marriage.

Having been there and done that sometimes doesn't allow one much objectivity, particularly when there are emotional wounds involved.

I'm not divorced, not married and don't have any children. The best "authorities" on child rearing are always people who don't have any of their own...

To: independentmind
You're attempting to justify government corruption by changing the subject. Certainly, divorce causes problems. But that in no way justifies government corruption. It isn't even logical to support government making things worse by stating that in many cases things are pretty bad already.

I'm not an authority on child-rearing, nor was I offering any advice on the subject. It's interesting, though, that you think a single woman should have no standing on this issue.
In case you haven't noticed, this country is raising children today that are little more than barbarians. Use your imagination and think about why a single woman might be particulary cncerned about that development.

You men want an easy way out. Work on your marriages more, and you won't have to deal with these problems in the first place.Pretty narrow-minded viewpoint, IMHO. Doesn't even begin to cover my particular case. I was married for 16 years, fathered 3 wonderful children, and my wife destroyed it all by cheating on me, all to feed her ego about having control over men. I treated her like a queen, was faithful to her, and never considered cheating on her, tried very hard to provide a loving and safe home for her and the kids. The fact that my kids have become such wonderful, loving adults, who would make any man burst with pride, is in no way a result of their mother's blatant disregard for our marrige vows, or the damage that was inflicted not only on me but on my kids when the marriage was ended. I paid out over $50,000 in child support, reduced my lifestyle to the minimum in order to pay it, and now, 11 years after the divorce, I'm still digging out from under the financial devastation I suffered. All together, my divorce cost me over $100,000. Don't talk to me about men taking their responsibilities seriously, because I DID!!! Women have just as much responsibility for making the marriage work as men do.
I would venture to say that the Feminist elements who have fed a load of crap to the women of this country share a large protion of the blame for the state of affairs we have now. It makes me sick, and I'm still single after 11 years because I can't seem to find a woman who has her head screwed on straight. This whole "liberation" movement has produced a generation of women (and men) with severely bruised spirits, and very irrational ideas about relationships, marriage, and responsibility. The damage will take several generations to undo, IF we start now. I don't see that happening.

Eh...Am I the only one to think it strange that a man who OWES $50,000 in child support would choose to set his OWN MERCEDES on fire?
Hmmmm...
This man is indefensible.

See my post #13. Doesn't by any means justify it, but there might be a connection in his little pea brain...

Have you tried going to court to enter a motion for reduction in your payment amounts since you don't have a job?

Well maybe selling the Merc and getting a smaller car might have been a more clever option, eh?

I am an adult whose only real memories of my father were constant b!thcing and moaning about having to pay minimal child support. My father CHOSE to be more attatched to his money he was having to pay than he was in having a relationship with his children. We did not choose our circumstances they were forced on us.
Well when I needed a father, food, clothes, adequate shelter he was too busy to bother with us. Now the tables have turned on him. He is elderly, disabled in a wheelchair and still bitter about all the lost money he was forced to spend on his children. The only reason he isn't stuck in a nursing home alone somewhere is because I am a christian and have forgiven him all of the pain he has caused me.
You just might want to consider what seeds you are sowing now and what you may reap later.
To: mvpel
Not yet. I will if I'm forced, but I want to support my children.
Unfortunately there is now way, repeat NO WAY, to insure that my support payments actually go to the kids.
Two weeks ago, I had to mak a special trip to deliver my son's only pair of shoes, so he could go to school. I bought him those shoes, even though his mother gets $1100 a month for his child support.
At least he has a roof over his head, and is eating...
