Yes, I figured the sniper left the message from what Moose said. I suspect that the person who said it was left on the answering machine may be right, or that an employee took a message. If you look at what Moose said, you can read a lot from what he didn't say.

I already posted this...
And when he answers the phone he'll ask (in my best Lily Tomlin voice), "Is this the party to whom I'm speaking?"
To: tomkat
LOL, Is that supposed to be the sniper?
To: valleygal
"Is this the party to whom I'm speaking?"Highly likely, if the past is a predictor of the future. :)

Where you still watching last night when the one officer who was giving the press updates "at the top and bottom of every hour" was suddenly replaced by someone else who said immediately, that there would be no more press conferences until this morning? I'm betting that that was the time that the message, whatever it was, was "received".

Somebody suggested that the snipers had, as a threat, mentioned a very secret phone number (i.e., "I know your number and it's XXX-XXXX") and that they are being asked to call this number. If it's Moose's unlisted phone number, it would certainly explain why some FReepers thought he looked scared...

Maybe the shooter didn't leave the phone #. Maybe a witness left it. Maybe they didn't want to be seen by all the media and wanted to keep their privacy. But, maybe someone saw someone leave the woods shortly after the shooting?? just tossing out another possibility.

I answered your last post about the thesaurus. The words he could use are, "flustrated" or "disgrumbled"...oh wait,
THOSE words aren't in the thesaurus! :)
To: Sacajaweau
I hope this isn't a hoax that has to do with the movie "PHONEBOOTH" that they are delaying the release of because of the shootings.
To: GeorgeandtheDralgore
Went back and re-read it..
Actually, it sounds like perhaps a witness who overheard something or saw something and is afraid.
To: Sacajaweau
Did you see Moose's face when he gave the message? It wasn't to a witness....he would have cajoled or pleaded or reassured. His face was hard and the message was short and sweet. It was to the sniper.

I hope this isn't a hoax that has to do with the movie "PHONEBOOTH" that they are delaying the release of because of the shootings. Coincidentally, (?) the first TV commercial that CNN cut away to after the press conference featured a guy in a Subway Sandwiches spot answering a ringing public telephone on the street.
To: Sacajaweau
A very scared witness (perhaps a material witness, that is involved in the crime). That was what I thought, too, when I first heard this.
Not sure now, though.
