Today my wife and I did a drive around to most of her "normal" shopping areas. The purpose was to do a "safety assessment", specifically sniper assessment.

Yeah, I know, I had the tin foil hat double wrapped.

Anyway, we put a number on the various locations, a high number, 100, being safe as possible and a low number, 0, meaning never go there.

Surprisingly, most areas received pretty good marks but there were a few that she won't be visiting any more...at least not without me dropping her off directly at the door and picking her up the same way.

I don't think Michael's is very important, simply because there are some areas where you'd seriously have to search for a mall that DIDN'T have a Michael's.

However, you made an interesting comment earlier (somewhere in the posts I was scanning after returning to my office) that you thought the terrorists (al Qaeda or Atta's "parent orgnization") were communicating in some kind of numeric code. That's a real possibility, and very interesting.

This is a summary from the Catholic Encyclopedia when I plugged in St. Michael the Archangel.

Christian tradition gives to St. Michael:

To fight Satan etc.

To be the Champion of God's people, the Jews in the old law, the Christians in the New Testament; therefore he was the patron of the Church and of the orders of knights during the Middle Ages.

It's an interesting dissertation and there is more..

Think about it. I've got one single thought in my mind now as to the significance of Michael.

America feels for you and we are heartbroken that it has come to this and running into schools from the bus. If they do have something, they should put the minds of Americans at ease. Why didn't the press ask if the person they had that was very promising lead was still promising? Oh, I know, inappropriate.

When I was growing up there was a Cathedral in town named St. Michaels. We always understood that he was the Archangel who defeated Satan in the great war of good against evil. Statues show him wielding a sword and with his heel crushing the head of a serpent, Satan.

A caller to Chris Core's WMAL radio talk show made an interesting point last night. He said that the sniper began making his single shots the day after Ari Fleischer made his "single bullet" statement about Saddam Hussein. Chris Core said he had thought of the same thing, so apparently the caller's point about the timing is correct. I've suspected all along that these shootings are a threat from Iraq meant to deter an attack.

Are you keeping an eye on our Iraqi neighbors in our area? Start noticing -- especially the Iraqi owned businesses.

Of course, it isn't just Iraqi's that need to be watched. Some of my neighbors have reported their observations to the FBI tip number. Anyone have that number? I need to write it down. Called it once, but need it again. Suggestion: Could that number be posted in the beginning text of the daily thread?

Terrorist flies in, shoots 11 people, flies out completing mission. He demonstrates that one doesn't need a fleet, an air wing, landing craft, beachheads, logistical support, paratroops, etc. to attack. Just a round trip ticket, and some walking around money. Maybe next month 100 troops "invade" to complete missions!

I believe you've hit the nail on the head.

I think they may have evidence in this truck....it would only take a couple of hours to discern if the casing was a match... all the Moose would have to say today is that it isn't and move on, but instead he has postponed the revelation until Monday

Most likely, they still won't know whether it's evidence or not, even when they've finished processing it.

If the shell matches the one left at the school, all they will know is that it matches the one left at the school. They don't know that either one of them actually came from the murder weapon. Nor will they know whether any other evidence found in or on the truck is from the shooters or from some other poor sap who rented the truck.

The only real clues they will have is the rental information. They can try to match the handwriting to any other samples of handwriting they may have (tarot card, piece of paper with directions, etc.). If the rental information turns out to be a false ID, they can figure they may be on to something. If the rental turns out to be to a local who appears otherwise legitimate, then this may be more misdirection by the shooters.

The one exception to this that I can think of is that the shooter may be in for a real surprise if the truck had some kind of GPS that recorded a record of where the truck has been. I would bet that most rental cars now have some kind of transponder that can be activated from the rental counter to send out a signal to help locate it if the rental is stolen, so there may be some kind of data maintained in the truck itself.

I can understand Moose saying they need more time to investigate, run tests, etc. before jumping to conclusions. But I see no reason why he couldn't have said "Yes, this shell matches the one left at the school. But we still don't know if it came from the murder weapon or whether it was planted in the truck to try to confuse us."

Here's another interesting tidbit, St. Michael is also the patron saint of paratroopers as well as cops.

In response to the sniper attacks, the Texaco station at Little River Turnpike and Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax has put up a tarp to protect its customers. "I feel safer," one said. (MICHAEL WILLIAMSON -- THE WASHINGTON POST)

In defense of Sac, I don't think her complaint was about FR.

...he did look ME

It isn't just m.e.'s that are muslims. I've noticed in the last couple of days muslim men who look white (chechnyans, bosnians) and asian (indonesian). You can bet terrorist acts will no longer be carried out by just the m.e. types.
