Peter Jennings Blaming North Korean Nuclear Weapons On Bush!!! Ignores Clinton Treaty Fiasco!!!
ABC/NY

The Bush administration has been thrown a very dangerous, potentially explosive curveball today. What is the president going to do about North Korea's admission that it has been going ahead with efforts to build nuclear weapons.
You can see the potential here. What is the administration going to do about the Koreans even as it insists that it may have to go to war against Iraq for allegedly similar activity? We are looking at this in a variety of ways tonight. How great is the threat, and what does the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il, hope to achieve by making this announcement now? Especially since he seemed to be making significant overtures toward the outside world in recent weeks.
Faced with such a brazen, unapologetic declaration, why hasn't the Bush administration reacted more aggressively? Is diplomacy a more effective route in this situation, or is there a double standard here, dealing with one state that violates the Bush doctrine on terrorism differently from another?

Jennings unwittingly makes the case why the US must take out Saddam before he gets nuclear weapons. Once a country like the DPRK acquires a nuclear capability, our options become more limited

Very good point.

has also not invaded two of its neighbors over the last decade or so. LOL. North Korea being located on a peninsula has only two neighors, South Korea and the Peoples Republic of China. I kind of wish they would try to invade China.

Mara Liasson, on the Brit Hume show a moment ago:
There is no question that this is a very depressing day for anyone in the Clinton administration involved with North Korea. (paraphrase)

Lets just ask them to sign a treaty saying that they will stop trying to make nuclear bombs. In return we'll help them make nuclear power plants instead.A MaddyAllDimism! :-) yippieeeeee

Hey Peter, your missing the point. North Korea is part of the Axis of Evil that President Bush so correctly defined. If I was you Peter, I wouldn't underestimate President Bush and the resolve of the American people. Just look in the history books under WWII, specifically, Japan, Germany and Italy.
If Iraq, Iran and N.Korea wants to continue to play these stupid games, fine. They'll all eventually pay the price.

Notice there are no stories outraged that NK cheated, lied and took our rice and money, along with that of SK and Japan.

Re #26 He called and said that the "cowboy" W now had to bomb NK just like Iraq as they have WMDs or W would be a hypocrite. Rush told him to shut up a couple times and to get his "lily white ass" on a plane and leave the country. I'll flag you on the thread if I can find it. Rush was p*ssed to no end...

I don't see how it's reflective of any of Clinton at all.. in fact I think your comments are overreactive and defensive. He poses some very serious and real questions. The problem is they can't be answered today.. they will be answered as this curveball finds it's way into policy. Individualy North Korean is still a much different situation than Iraq... as can be seen in the fact that they seem to want to come clean and actually make progress with the west.. which is evident by their capitalism experiment about to unfold in their special economic zone.
You might want to think before you act here.

I have no use for Jennings, Rather or Brokow. But y'all are missing something very important. All these guyz are news READERS. They aren't news makers they're news READERS. The producers and managing editors of their respective news programs are the dudes making the decisions about how a story will be handled. Pete, Dan and Tom are just the messengers.
