Personally, I doubt it. If I had to bet, I would bet that he is temporarily stymied by the insertion of DOD resources, and is either awaiting instructions, or studying up on how to circumvent those resources.
and yes, i'd appreciate the link to that exchange, as i've been a buckley fan since i was about this - high.
btw, buckley's written some great spy fiction,
and folks that haven't read it would think it was a different person, stealing buckley's name ...
I definitely remember dogs being put out and that they had found a scent -- I didn't ever find where the trail ended, because I'm assuming 1) If it's hard evidence, the police won't release it (rightfully so), 2) If it was anything else even close I'd hear about it...what happened to those dogs, ultimately? Too lazy to look it up at the moment. ;-)

P.S. Point taken, though -- so even easier: the shooter conceals himself in a bush, is good at getting the rifle out and hidden again (I think this is the most "masterful" part of the crimes so far, if you can call it that -- the speed and efficiency with which the perp is "packed up" completely and gone after a shot), and then probably he just WALKS off, to not draw attention to himself...dunno...I do love coming up with endless theories when there's nothing but circumstantial evidence so far. ;-)
There have been several occasions where a dog was able to track the scent of a person that was travelling inside a vehicle. It is unusual, but they can.
I believe the sniper is on foot for much of this and he has a spotter watching his back all the way..probably from an adjoining parking lot.
What you see is what you get...If you don't see him, than he is behind something...something you would see evryday if you shopped or gassed up at the scene. We become oblivious to those things.

Ayuh. Ever heard the saying, you only get caught for a crime when you worry about trying to hide it? This guy is RIGHT THERE in every case, I'll bet (and I agree there is most likely a spotter, even though I keep referring to one shooter -- just easier for me that way, I get distracted by bright shiny objects easily, etc :p).
They tell people to look in the direction of the shot if someone gets hit, but I wonder how many people know what a muzzled AR shot sounds like. I know what SOME muzzles sound like, but I've never even seen an AR (somebody fill me in -- it'd still just be a "whump", right?)

If it "goes away" like anthrax did, I'm officially going out and buying a pyramid hat. Sick of strange coincidences. :-)

I remember reading about the bloodhounds (?) following a scent to the beltway. However, this could have been his approach to the site rather than his escape route, no?
I find it hard to believe he'd escape in that manner (foot or bike).

The most likely person to see something "unusual" during their recon would be the "ground maintenance" person.
