I think there are stories of dogs following the scent of someone in a moving vehicle, but I was thinking of the perp walking or running.

I remember reading about the bloodhounds (?) following a scent to the beltway. However, this could have been his approach to the site rather than his escape route, no?

I find it hard to believe he'd escape in that manner (foot or bike).
