What if leftists found a right wing group advertising this:
"Please help us in Texas on election day. We have to LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD for a FAIR vote. And remember, Texas is one of the few states with CONCEALED CARRY laws."
They'd be squealing.
Defeat Wellstone NOW.

I thought it was pretty good too.
Same-day registration is a non-sequitur in any context except voter fraud.
Defeat Wellstone.
To: stndngathwrthistry
I belive the DSA took the memo off their website.

OK. The two posts here quoted what is now on the DSA site as if it was proof of a nefarious plan to thwart the will of the people. That is what I was objecting to. If proof existed at one point, but has since been destroyed, that's another story.

Don't quit, by any means - but don't worry too much. The Dems are toast, through and through. November will be a rude awakening for the lefties across the nation.

I got your link right here: http://www.dsausa.org/news/minnesota.html
I'm the one who found this and brought this to the attention of the posters on FR, where it was apparently picked up by Newsmax then Fox News and now Drudge. It's for real, all right.
It was originally an automatic POP-UP that came up when one logged onto the actual DSA/USA Home page. This is what happened when I was digging around that site to find/confirm the names of the current US House "Progressive Caucus".

What I want to know is what Wellstone has had to say about this "help" from the DSA-USA!
Is anyone aware of any statements on his part?
To: pollwatcher; gore_sux
This ya gotta see - from Wellstone's own website. I wonder just what kind of "ingredients" are in the "secret recipe" of those brownies?!
Volunteer View
Sarah Mullins, a volunteer with the Wellstone for Senate campaign since February, took second place in the brownie category at the Minnesota State Fair. Every Wednesday, Sarah treats the staff at campaign headquarters to a batch of her award winning brownies, based on a secret recipewhich she refuses to divulge
.and trust us weve tried.

Please see/reference my posts above for the background and "history" of how this story unfolded.

This FR thread (and post of mine) is where I originally posted the information and YES, it was indeed a POP-UP until they pulled it as such. But the original URL still works. OK. I accept the accuracy of your quote.
The only difference I see is that they say "young people" instead of "young Minnesotans" (presumably they made it more explicit in response to the public outcry). Still, you must make a logical leap to the conclusion that they intend to register non-Minnesotans. Nothing in the text justifies that conclusion. The fact that originally, they didn't explicitly say "We're not committing fraud!" is not evidence of fraud.
Anyway, is conspiracy to commit voter fraud the sort of thing they'd publicly announce?
To: rmlew
They only took it off as a pop-up. The URL I provide above (and as it's linked directly off of
Drudge's page as well) is still live.
To: pollwatcher
I think the confusing thing is they keep using the word "young" to describe not only the volunteers, but also the people they want to register. It makes it sound like they are the same people. It's a poorly-written memo, but it's benign.

Well, apparently what their intentions are is to exploit the loophole. Surely the DSA wouldn't need to pay transportation and housing for "locals"?!!!!
See this other post on the thread I mentioned above:

I live in the socialist republic of Minnesota and I can tell you that hasn't been the case for many years. A-N-Y-B-O-D-Y can walk up to an election judge, tell them they are so-and-so, the judge checks the computer list of registered voters and hands you a ballot card. NO ID, NO CROSS CHECK OF CRENDENTIALS OF ANY KIND. Any rat that keeps track of the old folks that die in the neighborhood they live in will compile a list of likely registered voters that won't be showing up to vote that fall. That's the way it is in metropolitan Minnesota today.

It would seem they're also trying to exploit "young" college-age students of legal voting age who are willing to drop classes, etc. in order to help out Wellstone. That's their targeted "audience" for this ad/former pop-up, apparently.

Here's the source code directly from the DSA web site.

Send A Student To Minnesota! DSAs national electoral project this year is the Minnesota Senate Election. Together with YDS, DSAs Youth Section, we are mobilizing to bring young people to Minnesota. Minnesota is one of the few states that allow same day voter registration. We will therefore focus our energy on registering young Minnesotans. Wellstone will need a high percentage of young people to register and vote for him if he is to stave off the campaign that Bush, the Republicans and the Greens are waging against him. He is the Rights Number One electoral target.
Because we are focusing on issue-based voter registration, this electoral work can be supported by tax-deductible contributions. The DSA FUND is soliciting tax-deductible contributions to support this project. Contributions are needed to underwrite the costs of transportation as well as providing a stipend for expenses; housing is being donated. You can contribute online with a Master Card or VISA. To contribute, simply choose from one of the amounts listed below. Click on the red dot and you will be taken to a secure server to input your credit card information. Our online order system does not allow us to let you fill in an amount, so if the choices we offer are less than what you want to contribute simply make more than one transaction until you reach the total you want to contribute.

To contribute offline: Make your check payable to DSA FUND, indicate Minnesota Project on the check or in your letter and return it to DSA FUND, 180 Varick St., 12th fl., NY, NY 10014 |

These dishonest bastards changed the text of the item on their web page! It used to say this:
Together with YDS, DSAs Youth Section, we are mobilizing to bring young people to Minnesota. Minnesota is one of the few states that allow same day voter registration. We will therefore focus our energy on registering young people. Wellstone will need a high percentage of young people to register and vote for him
Now it says this:
Together with YDS, DSAs Youth Section, we are mobilizing to bring young people to Minnesota. Minnesota is one of the few states that allow same day voter registration. We will therefore focus our energy on registering young Minnesotans. Wellstone will need a high percentage of young people to register and vote for him
If it wasn't for FR, the text of the original would be LOST, and the DSA could get away with being a band of dishonest pig-$^#@%#$ers.
