MD Governor stops sniper attack! (Bans all firearm discharges in 4 counties by executive order)

Shepard Smith on Fox News just confirmed that anti-gun MD Gov. Paris Glendening has, by executive order, made illegal ANY discharge of a projectile weapon in four (4) counties around Washington DC.

This ban also includes bow/arrow and muzzloading hunting that are about to come into season, and all practice and recreational shooting.

I disagree with the tone of the "sky is falling" posts, and with those who are automatically assuming that people shooting in self defense.

We are simply taking the Governor at his word. That is not exactly saying that the sky is falling. How hard is it for a governor to promise a pardon? Why is that unreasonable? We are simply asking for clarification. I don't even live in Fairyland.

You can have one in Maryland, you just can't use it to hunt with. Here in Wisconsin they have pretty ridiculous rules but they stem from some real idiots actions in the past. I'd say the landscape is pretty similar too. Mostly flat rural farmland with some rolling hills north and west. Here on my farm I am not permitted to use rifles. An unplanned shot could easily travel a mile or more without a single tree or land mass to stop it. I'll never forget the first time I was standing out in the field and I heard a shrill humm and then a distant "pop". I listened some more and after the third humm/whistle then five seconds later another pop, I figured it out! (I was never in the military and I'm pretty dumb too) I have lost a few sheep over the years to those "spotting " a$$holes too. They shine a spotlight and when they see eyes, they shoot it with a small caliber rifle. We keep the dogs and horses in at night during the three months of deer season around here.

Every person that owns a gun in these 4 counties should fire a shot into the air, every hour, on the hour.

Do you not understand the reason for it? How many guns are fired during hunting season? Do the cops need to be chasing down hundreds of reports of shots fired at this point in time? Hunters can go elsewhere if they just HAVE to hunt.

Oh..thanks. I was interested in it for it's invasiveness quality: encouraging the neighbors to turn THEIR neighbors in and all that. Maybe it did die int he state legislature...hope so...the most time I spent in Maryland was as a very fast (as in orginazation fast) touris and occasional mall shopper. Never broke the speed limit in Maryland, though it was only 40 miles or so to Pokamoke from my house....never dared. Weird cops there. They target classic sports cars, even if you're wearing a seatbelt and traveling the speed limit.

Perhaps that's where my paranoia of Maryland stems from...never thought about that...and thinking about it, yes, it is...that and a pickup truck broke down in Salisbury, when I was doing everything I could think of to set off burgular alarms at (they were all closed by this time) businesses...no cops...tried VERY hard to get attention...screamed bloody murder, set off security lights, banged on wired windows (broke one...no one knows I did that until now) ANYTHING to get me a police officer.

Finally, when my three kids (eldest 10 years at the time) were pushing the (standard tranny) truck down a very slight grade on a deserted side street by a laundrymat, THREE BLACK MEN, one middle aged and two strong young guys ventured out to ask me the problem....I told them. The middle aged guy got the two younger ones to help push and off we all went down the street ...THE TRUCK STARTED!!!!

And what to all 14 of our wondering eyes should appear...but flashiung blue lights...FINALLY, after three hours. The guys bugged out, but not far...I heard one of the younger ones giggling in the dark as I explained, in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS and in great detail to the officer exactly what had happened. Somebody smacked him in the gut to shut him up, by the "ooooof-ing" sound he made.

He got red in the face and left.
