The local radio has had a security expert on for the past two hours telling tips on what to do if you're caught in the traffic backup. Lots of people stuck in cars.

GOOD point

So MSNBC says they are holding a van??? "Being held," "being pursued," or "got away?" Good question!

***If you are in a roadblock, turn on your interior light so police can see you. If you see anyone trying to evade a chokepoint, call 911.
Bump.***
Good call bumping that for all the freepers that might be sitting in traffic right now. :) I guess a wireless palm could work for this though. :)

Oh Lord!! Being in that situation or even in that traffic jam must be terrifying. This is so terrible.

Haven't been there in a few months (I moved from that area recently). If I remember correctly that across Highway 50 is another shopping center. I don't remember any green spaces anywhere, but I just never paid attention to that, sorry.

The white van seems really far too stupid at this point--unless they have a HIGH number of accomplices driving off in white vans. Otherwise it would be an invitation to arrest after all the hoopla of Chief Moose's composite picture.
Has anyone discussed the possibilities that the get away is accomplished by looking like an emergency worker (EMS or fire dept.)or police official?

They know, with a reasonable amount of certainty, what manufacture of weapon the shooter is using, and a "black rifle" isn't it...I tend to agree with you. Remington, Ruger, & Steyer (just to name a few) make very good bolt action "police counter sniper" rifles in .223 for urban use, available to the general public thru certain distributors

Maybe so. Maybe not. I'd stick with the investigation until I was absolutely sure he wasn't the member of a team.

A senior citizen? That sounds like AQ to me. Seniors are treated with kid gloves by their adult children. They killed someone's grandmother or mother.
Now they have a witness who was in the parking lot and saw the victim covered in a sheet. Home Depot customers were completely shocked. When do we get rid of the 200 cells in America? This is a cell doing this.

Fuggetaboutit! The oak tree will never bear apples. Good taste is learned and not purchased. I will skip the ammo posts and go straight to the news at hand.

"Normalcy is a thing of the past in this area, and all we are all in this together."
. . .my brother-in-law; a very cool-headed man; who has never had even an inclination to want to stand out in a crowd, said that he went to grocery store this evening and saw a white van, parked with motor running; he got out of the car and broke into a full run to get inside the store.
Wish now, he had taken the license plate number; just in case.

Police Say Sniper May Have Struck Again, Woman Fatally Shot Incident Occurs At Home Depot Near Falls Church
UPDATED: 11:14 p.m. EDT October 14, 2002
Fairfax County, Va., police say a woman was fatally shot Monday night at a Home Depot store near Falls Church, Va.
The shooting has many elements similar to the sniper shootings in the past 13 days, but police have not confirmed a connection.
The woman was described as an elderly woman who was pushing a shopping cart to her car, which was parked in the parking garage near Route 50. Police say the woman was shot in the head and died at the scene.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. at 6210 Seven Corners Center. Police are looking for a 1990 white Dodge van with Virginia license plates. They said it has damage to its rear bumper. Also, witnesses have reportedly said the driver is a light olive-skinned man who could be wearing a blue jacket and blue pants.
Police presence at the scene is heavy and officers are closing down roads throughout the area. NEWS4's Pat Collins says roads are being closed in the area. U.S. route 50 was shut down when police responded to the scene. Collins also reports police set up checkpoints at the Key Bridge.
Agents from the FBI, ATF, Virginia State Police and Fairfax County Police were seen at the shopping mall.
NEWS4 reports traffic on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway approaching the American Legion Bridge is backed up.
An update from the police chief is expected around 11:30 p.m. Stay tuned to NEWS4 and refresh nbc4.com often for the latest updates and complete team coverage of this reported shooting in Virginia.

FWIW, The Home depot Execs are strong conservative guys. They consistently support GOP candidates.

Early in a thread about a week ago on another sniper shooting, somebody mentioned that the shooting occurred in Falls Church, VA. He was immediately corrected and was told that Falls Church was completely out of the area of previous sniper shootings. I just find this a little strange.

there's a bit of military slang that starts with 'cluster', and that applies to the traffic around the corners,
but given your handle, i'll prolly just let it go at that ...
