CNN Headline News is reporting that a woman has been shot near a Home Depot in Falls Church, VA, and that authorities are investigating whether this is another sniper attack.

Actually the 9mm Browning is a round chambered for the Swedish Browning auto. It was a little longer than a .380 and shorter than the 9mm parabellum.

I have heard the .380 referred to as the Browning short although it is usually called .380 ACP which is short for Automatic Colt Pistol.

THat Home Depot has a parking lot on ground level with a deck above that. I would assume they mean the ground level (you can walk out from under the deck and be at ground level. That's the store entrance/exit level too) portion of the parking lot.

"Security expert" at WMAL (I didn't know they had such a thing) cautioned against reporting location of roadblocks, so he agrees with you. But traffic reporter then said there were blockages on all the main roads in Montgomery County.

I hope he didn't have time to disable them. The witnesses said they heard one shot only so he couldn't have shot them down. But he may have parked in a spot where the security camera could reach if he knows the parking lot.

He's changed his MO several times to accomodate what is being reported. And his MO has been discussed quite a bit in the media - and though I'm not one to go ranting about the media, I must say at this point that they need to just shut up.

So Moose says that the schools are safe, and the guy changes his MO (shooting adults) and shoots a kid. Then he's called the gas station sniper, and he moves back to the strip malls but tacks on a more difficult shot, if I'm understanding the parking situation correctly. Besides, wasn't everyone calling the sniper on the ease of his shots heretofore?

I heard some head on earlier tonight who scoffed at the notion this guy is a real sniper - said he needed to be "demoted" to "just a shooter with some luck" - and I cringed. Things like that are taken as challenges by the sniper, I think, and as much as I hunger for information that will make me feel safer about living here, I think it's time to put a lockdown on the media.

Out of curiosity, what time did you hear about the shooting? There've been posts about this happening "so late," but on Wednesday night, there was a significant delay between the time the shooting occurred and the time it was reported. When did this one happen?

Problem is that the small, high-velocity .223 round tends to over-penetrate, going right through the body rather than releasing its energy into the body.
