A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....10-09-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FR'S FINEST

Physicist
FReeper since 10-01-98

near Philadelphia PA

Physicist comes by his screen name logically and honestly. He has an Undergraduate Degree majoring in Physics and Earth and Space Sciences; a Masters in General Physics and a Ph.D. in Experimental High-energy Physics. His thesis experiment was performed with the AMY detector at the KEK laboratory in Japan, where he lived from 1988 to 1989. He is a Staff Scientist at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Here is a link to his homepage at Penn.

Physicist was raised in Bethlehem PA of old Pennsylvania Dutch stock. His genealogical research has uncovered ten direct ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War in various Pennsylvania militias, primarily in Berks county. His Pennsylvania roots are deep; his family has been in Pennsylvania for almost 300 years.

"A FAMILY AFFAIR"

Physicist's wife is also a FReeper being registered as "Mrs. Physicist". Physicist has two siblings and both are registered on FR as "Enzymologist" and "Molecular Biologist", respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Physicist met in middle school, were married in 1991 and have three beautiful children. When Jake was born in 2001, Physicist shared the news with his FRiends by posting a poignant vanity thread. PHYSICIST AND MRS. PHYSICIST HAD A SON TODAY

"DON AND TERI ADAMS"

(Don Adams pictured above at FR Garden Party)

Physicist first started reading Free Republic just after the Lewinsky scandal broke, from a link on the Drudge Report. He lurked until October 1, 1998, when he made his first post regarding an appearance by Bill Clinton in Philadelphia the next day. Large crowds had been protesting against Clinton around the country, and he expected a similar occurrence in Philadelphia.

As it turned out, only around three dozen people were there to protest Clinton (including five FReepers), while around 500 members of the Teamsters and Carpenters unions were there to support him...and brutally to suppress anyone who dared to protest against him.

Physicist was the first person attacked that afternoon; he thinks he is the only FReeper ever to have his blood shed by the Clintonistas while protesting. Later that evening he witnessed firsthand the bloody beating of Don and Teri Adams, a brother and sister whom he met shortly after he was attacked.

The events of the "City Hall Putsch" in Philadelphia had a galvanizing effect on Free Republic. As a result of the incidents of that day, Jim Robinson made the fateful decision to go to Washington to demand the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

In a few weeks' time, 5000 FReepers decided to join him, and the result was the March for Justice on October 31, 1998. During that time, Physicist managed to establish contact with Don and Teri Adams, and he arranged for Don Adams to speak at the March for Justice that evening at the Octogon in Washington, D.C.

In the years since then, five different court cases have resulted from the beating. Physicist has participated directly in two of them, and has chronicled all of them in a series of posts to FRee Republic.

A good background source for the Teamster beating incident is the four-part write-up Physicist did for the 2-10-99 pre-trial hearing of Kevin McNulty and Marc Nardone. The links to "Philly Teamster Update" are here:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Please visit the following links for more information; still others are bookmarked on Physicist's Home Page: 9-12-00, 10-25-00, 11-01-00, 11-03-00, 12-18-00, 1-15-01, 1-28-02, 1-28-02

"FREE REPUBLIC PHILADELPHIA CHAPTER"

In December of 1998, Physicist became incensed when the City of Philadelphia began criminal proceedings against Don Adams, the victim. (Although he was ultimately acquitted, he remains the only person actually to stand trial as a result of the beating that was administered to him.) In response to this outrage, Physicist formed the Free Republic Philadelphia Chapter to organize local support for the Adamses, and to support Free Republic activism in the Phildelphia area. Abner is the current president of FRee Republic Philadelphia Chapter.

The FR Philadelphia Chapter staged protests against Clinton in the Philadelphia area more than ten times from 1998 to 2000, among other activities. Here are links to some of them, others are bookmarked on Physicist's Home Page:

"IN HIS OWN WORDS"

"I spend much of my time on FreeRepublic defending libertarian principles, defending evolution and fielding physics questions. If anyone has any, ask away!"

"At home, I engage in the only hobby that is also clinically recognized as a mental illness: book collecting. I most avidly collect academic imprints of the '40's and '50's, especially Mentor, Pelican, Modern Library and Anchor, but many others besides."

"I like to read classics, lit-crit, history, science, science biography, politics, Sovietology, philosophy, science fiction, fantasy, techno-thrillers and mysteries."

A final ending quote from Physicist:

......."here's the main difference that FreeRepublic has made in my life: I can look myself in the face in the mirror.".....Physicist, Post #33 My Life Has Never Been the Same Since I Found www.freerepublic.com

Mrs. P. doesn't like the photo at the top of the bio. She says she looks "horrible"; I think she looks just fine. If anything, I look worse, trying as I am to smile with a big mouthful of Guinness Stout.

I saw this on TV too when it happened. How amazing that these people got away with barely a slap on the wrist.

What a beautiful family. You have blessed in many ways. Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself with me today.

Good morning FRiends. I wanted to share an email that I received this morning. Maybe you have seen it and maybe you havent't but I think it is worth looking at and I think if you agree you should ping all of your friends to it.

Have a Great day. Here is the email.

Subject: Gas

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the
coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their
oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every
time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to
kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for
you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from.

Major companies that import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00
-8/31/01).

Shell................ 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco....... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil......... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon............. 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco................ 62,231,000 barrels
If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo 0 barrels
Sunoco 0 barrels
Conoco 0 barrels
Sinclair 0 barrels
BP/Phillips 0 barrels
Hess 0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can
be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state
where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a
monthly basis.

Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for
terrorism.............

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers.

Glad you liked it. I was just starting to wonder if it was a little off topic. I didn't want to rain on anyone's parade. If I can helps my fellow Americans I will do so.

Good morning......I am so happy to hear that you like your profile...

.I learned so much about so many things in snooping around the threads you were involved in. I had heard of the Don Adams incident, and had seen his name mentioned many times, but it was just great to put all of the pieces together and see the complete picture...

.Special kudos to you for founding the Philadelphia Chapter of Free Republic...And we need more information about the statement on your Profile Page that you "introduced dead to laz" (or was it the other way around?)...Whatever, details please...lol....
