Wouldn't AQ go for something more dramatic, like doing this in several cities simultaneously? This may terrorize the DC area but it doesn't have a nationwide impact.

"but it doesn't have a nationwide impact."
Then what's this thread and all of the coverage by the media about?

This may terrorize the DC area but it doesn't have a nationwide impact. I resepctfully suggest that these shootings DO have a nationwide impact, even though most of us don't feel personally "at risk" at the moment. Do you feel a touch of what you felt on 9/11/2001? I do.

If you think that just because this is happening in the DC area, that it isn't affecting the rest of the country, think again. People know that there are cells all over the country, and they also know that these shooters 'could' be terrorists, thus the area of attack 'could' change at any given time.

I think it is terrorizing the whole country myself.
