Would be nice if we had good overhead photos of these sites showing where each "hit" was and the direction etc...They really have a lot of clues...they need lady-luck right now.

Yes, it could be a TC. 200 yards would be at the edge of it's capabilities.

Area residents on WMAL are calling for the cancellation of schools, at least for tomorrow. Officials have closed schools for less, such as the threat of bad weather -- in the interest of safety. It's a tough call for those in positions of authority. For now, only outside activities both during and after school hours have been cancelled.

If law enforcement can’t handle this, it’s time for citizens to get involved -- as in militia. I’ve talked to neighbors, co-workers and friends and we’re ready to donate money towards our defense. Problem is … we’re a white color crowd and hire people to mow our lawns – we don’t like getting “dirty.” We stay PC to get promoted at our government (or government related) jobs. We’ve taken all the touchy feely briefings at our job so we’re afraid to say “boo” because we might offend somebody. We’re so busy chasing the “dream” we’re in dreamland. Just wondering how many of us will choose denial rather than wake up to the nightmare… It’s hitting home now

I get this picture of middle-class America as this large dog chained to its doghouse. Every once in a while this little yapping cur-dog comes around, steals something from the big dog's dish, yaps at him, and runs out of range.

One day, possibly real soon, the big dog is going to get pissed off enough to break the chain. Once the chain is broken, the yapping curs are in DEEP trouble

This is what I think they may be using...something that can be concealed while moving on foot to and from their shooting location. It's just what I picture rather than a guy walking around with a full size rifle. The Contender has been mentioned a few times.

Thanks/Sac

There was something in Montgomery County Exec's Doug Duncan's comments last night that almost sounded like a dare to the killer(s) regarding the schools. As I listened to Duncan's press conference, I was filled with a sense of dread. I know Duncan didn't intend to issue a dare but it sounded like one nonetheless.

Listening to Duncan tonight I was thinking that he sounded good - meaning that he was saying what the residents needed to hear, he was angry, he was outraged... and he told parents that they needed to come to the schools and take the place of the kids as safety patrols. He said that parents should walk their kids to school, volunteer to act as security at the schools, crossing guards, etc.

But just because he said some of the things that needed to be said doesn't mean that I would vote for him. He's still an anti-gun liberal Dem.

My concern is that with the press conference tonight and all the cops and others telling us how safe the schools will be with cops, cop cadets, FD cadets, parents etc, watching over the kids... everyone will be watching the schools and the shooter will go back to a shopping center or elsewhere. He is not only shooting to kill people, he is playing a game - to let us know that he alone is in charge of when and where he decides to shoot at innocents. He is [bleep]ing with us... headgames are sometimes more potent a weapon than an actual physical attack.

It's time for him to die, IMO.

Kim, I think we are trying to read too much into it. It looks like a radius to me, with one "running scared" trip to the southwest, then back home.

It's the claiming the 'schools are safe' that serves to taunt the killer. Since Duncan has mediated his tone tonight, it's for the better and I'm glad to hear it.

Alomst everybody aroound here carries backpacks and/or duffel bags.

Oh....God, I'm listening to Greta talking tonight with some "experts". She's talking about citizens calling the cops if they have a neighbor who maybe has guns... or keeps weird hours (what's weird about the hours that this shooter has kept so far? mostly daylight hours...) some talking head just said the cops should go to the ranges and collect "bullets" and test them. Have they ever been to a range? Spent brass everywhere...

With advice like that, she's gonna have the limosine liberals turning in the last few law-abiding gun owners left in MD, myself included. I refuse to take a single pro-gun bumpersticker off my vehicles, and I'm not going to get rid of a single firearm I own (none that use .223 BTW, Greta). It sounded to me like Greta was inciting a little hysteria there. But then, I'm a little touchy when liberals start talking guns.

That won't help to turn in everyone who has a backpack. It isstupid. It make ssense for eveyoneone who has a gun to just carry it and fi they see somebady aiming at somebody else then they should just shoot use old time justice on them.

Local and State police never give up a case to the FEDS.....something has changed here.

Samantha Runion case, here in So Cal this summer, they all worked together. I've been away from the computer for the night, so forgive me....did they actually turn the whole shabang over to the Feds?

I believe, with all I have in me, that this is international terrorism. And it's just the beginning....

How many different weapons will take the 223?? What would they look like and what would be the min/max length??Can they be broken down and how quickly?? Would it fit into a packpack if it was broken down quickly??

Anything from bolt-action rifle, to AR-15, to Thompson Contender single-shot pistol. The AR-15 could be quickly broken down to fit in a large gym bag. The Thompson could go into a backpack or into a shoulder holster under a shirt (and with a scope, would be accurate out to 100 yards)

I think you're right... And like I heard earlier today...it's impossible to see patterns in the mind of a madman...he may see patterns though. :-\ Or something like that.

What if he handed the gun off to another cell to throw the neighbors off. If he is home at the time of the Friday shooting, suspicious neighbors will "know" he is not the sniper. He gets the gun back over the weekend, and starts again on Monday.

I know it sounds farfetched, but I think these guys are probably Muslim terrorists working on a new phase of their was against us. I really hope this is just one guy or pair, but if others see the success they are having, this type of killing may begin to spring up elsewhere.

I have not seen anyone shoot a pistol from the prone position, have you?

My father in law sometimes shot from a sort of right side up prone posistion. Not sitting. Using his leg as a rest. I couldn't even get into that position very easily. He was pretty accurate with a .45 ACP, .357 or .44 that way.

But what about "pistols" such as the XP-100, TC Contender or the Savage that is similar to the XP? I've seen those with bipods attached, and I guess you'd have to fire that fron prone or from a bench or somesuch.

Was Doug Duncan in any other elected position before County Exec? Is he a typical Dem.? Just curious for personal reasons. His family used to live on the next street over in the Twinbrook area of Rockville when I was a kid. He's one of 13 kids, I think. One of his sisters was a good friend of mine (double dated, did cheerleading together, was our Homecoming Queen). If I run into her at a high school reunion I'll need to be careful what I say! :)

As a kid I knew little about politics. I never realized, growing up how liberal MD was and is. I moved at 20. Quite different here in PhX, AZ., thankfully.

Yesterday bonesmccoy posted some aerial photos from Terraserver (I think) of several shooting scenes, on this thread. They show the large areas of greenspace (tree cover, etc) very near the scenes. Great place for a shooter to set up, blend into the scenery and do his deed unmolested, and then beat a hasty retreat unnoticed.

Note: In running an errand in Rockville tonight, I did notice that I had made a significant error when describing the scene of one of the murders in past threads. I was thinking of another gas station when recalling the location and surrounding landscape. The Mobil station where the cabbie was shot was not located directly across from Gate of Heaven cemetary. But the Mobil station is near several wooded areas where the shooter could have hidden. I also noticed that he could have chosen the same area to take his shot at the Michaels store.

This whole situation has gotten me pretty disturbed. My kids have friends who live in the area, and these kids are pretty rattled right now; not to mention how worried their parents are. And because I live in an area that has been historically a higher crime area, I have gotten into the habit of doing my shopping in the "safer" areas, like Aspen Hill and Bowie. I guess I may have to start shopping in Langley Park (the shooter would risk getting hit by stray bullets in drive-bys if he set up shop down there...plus the few parks around are frequented by homeless types who have left DC for the close-in 'burbs). But I digress...
