13 year old boy shot infront of school. Police scanners on!
May God protect them and us all.

Again these guys want to remain as invisible as possible and the easiest way is to buy a truck/van, at least for the first few hits until people start to notice.
What they *could* try, technology permitting, is a cross reference of recent short term motel stays in the greater area (say, 100 mi. radius if possible) with recent truck/van purchases, recent car rentals, and recent credit card gas purchases. Do a cross check by name and social security number instead of just credit card number (to catch multiple credit card holders). Most people use credit cards these days and those who don't tend to attract unwanted attention, so these guys probably used credit cards too. They might have bought the van with cash as an exception so such a search might not count on that particular item showing up in the results.
These guys are using the safety in numbers technique of avoiding detection. Computerized methods are an efficient and economical way to root them out imho. Also I imagine that the authorities may even be busy doing this kind of search, even as we type...
Relying on locality alone as a guide to casework sounds to me about 30 years out of date, something that might look good as a technique in "Hunter", "Rockford Files" or "Dragnet" but perhaps less than appropriate in today's post-industrial info age...
Just a thought.
Yes, there is. Doctors got enough of the bullet to indicate a connection. I don't know if that means the same type of bullet, or fired from the same gun. I was under the impression that making the "same gun" determination on center fire high velocity rifle bullets isn't very easy or reliable.
It was his Aunt, and she was dropping him off, just like millions of parents and others do daily.
While there aren't enough cops to stake out everyplace these bozos could target, there are enough riflemen, who are likely better shots than most of the police (not necessarily the police snipers). It's time for the Sherrif or the governor to call out the posse/militia.
Remember you are reading a translation, "God" is a translation of "Allah". That's true whether the Judeo-Christian "God: and Muslim "God" are one and the same or not.
The aunt that dropped the boy off today said she didn't react to a shot, she said she reacted when she saw the boy slump over.
How many different weapons will take the 223?? What would they look like and what would be the min/max length??Can they be broken down and how quickly?? Would it fit into a packpack if it was broken down quickly??
The guy only needs a minute until people figure out something is going on and then the concentration would be on the victim for several minutes.

This one sure. But your risk depends on how many like this one (or this pair) there are, doesn't it?

Never mind the AR-15, moose with a .223? I'd invite her to have go at it, but since she's probably not a great shot, given her apparent unfamiliarity, she'll be allowed to get much closer to the moose, before seriously ticking him off. :) I was watching an "outdoor" show on Saturday where they were shooting Moose in Alaska, (while FRreeping of course) with something more appropriate than a .233, and every moose they shot ran a considerable distance before dropping. The guide wouldn't let them even get close to the moose for 15-20 minutes afterwards, just to be sure, even then he required the shooter to have his gun at the ready and sent his assistant up with rifle in hand, pointed at the moose, to check to see if the bugger was indeed dead.
Something like the Amber Alert could be used for terrorism. In this case, one thing that would help it seems to me is a concise up to date list of facts about the case that are already in the public domain, ona website hosted by whatever appropriate government agencies.
People would then be free to view the facts for themselves and it would help them be on the lookout for suspicious individuals and activity. Right now the press conference way of getting info out seems too hit and miss (viz. description of the bullets, getaway vehicles, races of the victims, and potential firearm types). Even the people running the press conferences seem to get very flustered by the national attention and make simple terminology mistakes. The media tends to take the flashiest tidbits of information and amplify them (assault rifle, etc.), misrepresenting or blowing some facts out of proportion, while omitting other useful facts. This is not an effective and efficient way to get useful help from the public at large, imho.
Anyway just a thought.
.223 or 5.56x45 in full metal jacket, as used by the US military, will cause that kind of damage, sometimes anyway.
