Within the next couple of hours we'll get to see if he/they hold to form or not.

Fox just reported another shooting in PG county. Almost immediately denied a sniper connection. Said it was close range, too many shots fired.

Egad, makes me realize how many shootings happen in this state on what seems a daily basis. Every shooting gets reported it seems, with any required denials immediately following.

You could be right about that four shootings to get attention thing. I still think the perp hasn't been able to get off any good shots without gaining attention except the one this morning. By me, they've (he, she, whoever) have been "trained" to do this.

Couldn't it have been (3), at Ashcroft's discretion?

I was wondering why cite the other section on killing law enforcement officers.

Why wouldn't someone using a pistol use the prone position?

I guess if he fired from the grass, he must have been on foot.

PG County and D.C. (especially S.E. D.C.) have a lot of gangbanger slayings. Awful murder rate.

Bowie, however, is outside gangbanger country.

The cops connected "the shootings" plural but I didn't hear that it was connected to one particular one.

I had to contact the CDC regarding condo mold this afternoon so I took a newsbreak. The CDC in Atlanta is on the ball. A doctor promptly called me back from the respiratory dept. and told me what to do about mold. Looks like the CDC is responsive under the Bush Administration. Praise for the CDC today.

This is 8-5 week day stuff. Look for guys doing this on the clock using a company truck/van and then being off on the weekends. They have a daily route or are dispatched to job locations. They will be sort of like the Invisible Man in the short story of the same...note Mailman in the story. Hide in plain sight.

Don't think so. Reason: timecards too easily traceable. Someone at the home office dispatch would be more likely to notice a discrepancy or pattern in the unassigned time or delays to the next job(s).

They're using animal-appearance-style mimicry imho.

The way to maximize invisibility is to look like a company truck but not be a company truck. Presuming these guys have the bucks to spend on various sniper niceties, it is not a large leap to imagine them having about $5K cash to invest in a secondhand white panel Isuzu or Mitsubishi truck (note: I saw one response that mentioned the truck had a black mark on the side; I got the vague impression that the mark was of the type that indicated a minor accident, and if so, the value of the truck would be decreased, making it more economical to purchase).

Since no leads have turned up in the rental area, at least none that have been reported, and they would have been stupid to rent anyway (note: not saying not worth checking out, but I would not expect much in way of results), I think the easier explanation is they own the vehicle(s) free and clear and could choose to move it, paint it, abandon it, ditch it or torch it at any time with complete independence and impunity.

An ideal setup would be a small van with a couple of single rider motorcycles lurking within sight. If the van is cornered, the guys could jump ship and get a quick rescue from the more mobile cycles. That presumes there are enough people and cash resources to cover such backup planning...

Hitting a schoolkid from a nearby forest may imply that they had to ditch truck when it became too hot, and had to use a different MO to reach out and touch someone in a way that would still minimize chances of getting caught.

Always possible I might be completely off base though...

I guess he could use a pistol in the prone position. I have not seen anyone shoot a pistol from the prone position, have you?

From the coverage this morning, the entrance used by the boy would be the one closer to the grass and trees. Looked like a street entrance to the school. The busses were letting students off in the parking lot shown in the picture.

I hope they are checking out all reports of stolen white trucks. I think the Fredericksburg getaway was a mid size dark sedan, so I hope they're looking at the car rental agencies and stolen car reports too.

Trained? a 200 yard shot isn't too difficult for a COMPETENT hunter. If we start seeing kills over 3, 400 yards, then i'll conceed he's he's put in some serious time at the range. As far as the MO is concerned, I've seen most of this in a Paladin Press book.

if this turns out to be terrorist related, and if it escalates or moves to other areas, I'm going to go gun shopping and I will carry concealed and I will teach my kids how to handle guns safely, how to shoot and protect themselves

You should do all that anyway. It makes your kids as gunproof as possible, since it removes the "forbidden fruit" aspect. It's also an obligation of American citizenship, to be armed and familiar with the use of arms IMHO at least.

Wonder how national gun sales have been running over the past few days? I've revised my 'Christmas list' somewhat...:-)

Another day of killing and chaos...that's terrorism no matter how you cut it and likely Muslims because of the timing as related to surrounding events like the Oregon, NY cell pickups, UBL tape, French oil tanker explosion at a Yemeni port...The Buffalo guys were tied to Yemeni???

The Oregon guys are tied to Maryland.

Sure looks like a "specialized" cell got active!!!

I manage a shopping center down the road a piece from Bowie. We had a horrible time with break-ins. The shopping center is doing poorly at any rate, so our tenants were furious with this series of events. In desperation we hired PG county off-duty cops to patrol at nights. Even with this we were STILL robbed one night. The cop was evidently sleeping on the job. So we had to pay thousands of dollars to install a "swipe" system to make sure the cops were doing their job.

Then one day we read the local paper and discover the perp of the robberies in our shopping center had been arrested. And, get this, the perp was an EMPLOYEE of one of our most complaining tenants.

Then I found out later this tenant is a Muslim but that's a whole nother story.

I don't mean "trained" in the sense of markmanship. Though that was part of it I'd argue. I mean "trained" in a sense of how to move stealthily about, how to effectively avoid detection, proper targets to take down. A comprehensive, "terrorism" kind of taining is what I'm suggesting here.

But hey, it's just speculation. Not much else to go on.

I imagine gun sales will be pretty brisk for the next few days. Especially in Virginia with it's more Gun owner friendly enviroment.

In competition, maybe? When I used to watch American Shooter on TNN, they showed some pistol competition. Lots of running around, quick reloads, multiple targets. I don't recall seeing any prone position shooting with pistols, though I might have missed it.
