There's a big difference in the appearance of a spent .223 bullet and a .22LR bullet. They are the same diameter but the .223 if it is a FMJ type will be copper-jacketed, long, and pointed. If it's a soft point hunting bullet it will be either mushroom shaped or broken up in several fragments. If is is a hollow point varmint bullet it won't be seen because it shattered into thousands of tiny fragments on impact. OTOH, a .22LR slug would be plain lead or copper wash coated, not jacketed, and it would probably be still round nosed unless it struck bone. If it was a hollow point or a hyper-velocity round it would be an irregular shaped lump of lead, or probably in several pieces if it hit bone close to the surface.
I have never seen a human wound from either of those rounds, but I have examined plenty of wounds on dead animals from both of them.

I hope Pat Brown realizes that she makes herself sound like a gun grabbing leftist and that maybe she thinks only LE and folks like HER are priviliged enough to own weapons. What idiots like her don't realize is that there are MILLIONS of gun owners and magazine subscribers today who didn't SHOOT anybody.
You and me both - my brother-in-law & his family are in Montgomery Co., my aunt is in Fairfax, and my wife and I used to live about five or six blocks from the DC shooting.
