It's not the bullet size that matters here.

My response had only to do with why a paramedic would call it a .22 shot. I doubt he'd have seen the wound, because they didn't transport -- the aunt did. I'm speculating they have the round, and that he saw it. From what I'm reading here, an non-gun type might easily call it one thing when it was the other.

.223 is very long, though of the same diameter. I have seen that their jacket is flattened and spread out by the lead center upon impact into a sharp, sometimes quarter sized piece and driven by the lead, pushes through, coring the victim like an apple. Entry wound is small, massive tisue damage begins just inside abdominal wall and spreads on way out as it tears things up.Exits with great gaping wound and lots of blood spray. Some people talk about a tumbling effect. I haven't seen it. There are many real experts here. I'm not one of them.

This is very likely terrorism, look at it this way:
The targets are random, non gender or race specific so it's not some white supremacist, anti-gov't, militia type.
No demands have been made, just like WTC, no motive other than to terrorize & invoke fear.
If it is two shooters, i.e. spotter & shooter team as in a sniper operation, then it is truly a terrorist attack, a psychotic lone individual is another matter. No way two individuals could work together in such a manner unless is was a calculated act of terror.
Shooter(s) have no moral character, especially if they can kill a child indcating further fanatical driven terrorism.
Terrorist(s)is/are likely paying close attention to the media to determine where the greatest fear of attack dwells i.e. a school and are brazenly targeting those areas.

A 22 LR is a 29-40 Grain Bullet with about 75 - 105 Ft.Lbs of energy at 100 yds. A .223 is a 40-64 grain bullet with the 64 gr at 100 yds having 1000 ft.lbs of energy (according to Winchester). There is a huge difference.

One is used as a professional sniper round, Sig Sauer P550 and the other is used for plinking and small game. Problem is most people no longer know a gun from a broom stick in this country.

Its not possible to know from what direction a threat will come, otherwise it wouldn't be a surprise. But you knew that.

If it's a semi-automatic, the brass will get ejected automatically and the shooter would have to find it and pick it up. The police have not found any brass at any of the shootings and so far they all are single shot shooting. This would indicate the shooter is using a bolt action rifle.
