October 2, 2002 | Judy Woodruff

CNN just broke in and said that the GOP will not wait to find out the SCONJ decision.

They will bring a petition to Federal Court (eventual destination SCOTUS) on the Voting Rights Act with regard to the 1,800 already mailed absentee ballots in NJ.

I agree with you!! Too long - we have quietly sat by and let the RATS run rampant. Let the whole country weigh in on this one.

About time that we stand up and quit being such wimps!!

If the RATS pull another dirty strategy - they will be seen for what they are!! If they win in NJ - that will tell the rest of America what NJ is all about!!

I guarantee that if the Democrats persist in openly and PUBLICLY thumbing their noses at the laws of the United States and subverting the Constitution, another violent, bloody Civil War is not out of the question.

I have to agree with you. I think that appealing is a good idea, but more important is for Forrester to go on the severe offense and dig up what he can on Frankie-boy. It is NJ's race, even though the Senate balance is in question. Would love to see some polling data on Forrester/Lautenberg to see where it stands. If they show a big switch in the electorate, it can only serve to pump up Republican ire in the nation, and possibly swing MO, MN, SD, LA, IA, and heck even MT our way, and may help us hold AR.

You can't do that unless you are a card carrying member of the demoratic party...

New Jersey makes those whining idiots in Florida look attractive. At least in Florida, there was a circuit court judge who had some character and stepped up to the plate. And the Chief Justice finally found some religion albeit too late. New Jersey is more toxic than is being portrayed in fiction. Everyone who is a decent citizen of NJ has to be ashamed, whether there are enough of those to beat the criminally political element is an open question.

....then they will suffer the wrath of not only New Jersey, but of our entire nation.

As well they should. If the Democrats claim to be for the "Workin' Man", then the Republicans should claim to be for the rights of the "Citizen Soldier".

"We can't let this turn into a momentous Supreme Court decision because we'll be on the losing end of the PR war. The opposition owns the barrels of ink."

Mark Levin predicted that there would be some kind of out given by the NJ Supremes: new ballots, time extension, etc. so that soldiers would not feel picked on. By not waiting for the ruling, the GOP beat them to the punch. Now when the NJ Supremes are kind to soldiers, it will be seen as an afterthought. Truth is, they only respect soldiers because the GOP makes them respect soldiers, and everyone knows it. This brings that issue to the forefront. Great move. Even more significant might be what Amelia pointed out previously on this thread:

What I got from the report was that absentee ballots must be available 45 days before the election, according to federal law, because of the overseas military ballots.

If this proves true, their a$$ is grass, and the Lott/Forrester team is the lawnmower.

Yes! Let the Rats argue that the military should lose their voting rights! EXCELLENT!

Frankly I think the pubbies should let it be. Lurch'nburn is a tenth choice embarassment. A walking cadaver. Forrester should have just as good a chance against him as against Torchie. Forrester can paint Lurch as a "selected, not elected" candidate. He can still keep Torchie as a subsidary issue (he exemplifies the corruption of the democrat party, which is exemplified in the transparent games-man-ship that replaced him with a has been pretender). Taking the "high road" here could pay off in other states as well. By keeping the fight going, we risk nationalizing the issue and firing up the Dim base in other states. By eschewing the appeal Pubbies could nationalize the issue, but Dims can't.

I listened to the NJSC on C-Span 3 early this morning and one of the Justices said "This is a NEW PARADIGM!"

Right then I knew what the decision was going to be.

Possible development by Amelia [previous post]:

If true, then it's the GOP's duty to go to the US Supreme Court.

Some tourist tips while visiting the states:

Visit Sunny Broward, Dade and West Palm Beach Counties in Florida...
Where you will see thousands of elderly skillfully manage dozens of bingo cards at one time, but can't read and need the help to press a touch screen to vote. But can't do that either.

Visit California...
Witness the rebirth of the old Soviet Union under the brilliant stewardship of commisar Davis. The Politburo is being restored in Sacramento, and the next Internationale convention is being planned in San Francisco.

Visit New Jersey...
Don't just watch the Sopranos! Live it! Go and see for yourself during guided tours of what Mafia appointed judges and senators look like, where they work and go to the Meadowlands and check out the parking lot. On a hot day a barrel will surface every now and then containing their political opposition.

This tourism guide courtesy of the DNC.

I'm not willing to consider NJ a lost cause, and I bet there are other NJ FReepers who agree. The breakdown for NJ was 40% gop, 56 dem - sure, a landslide by election standards but I like to dwell on the positive - fully 40% of the voting public is conservative in NJ. And we have a good chance for the first time in 30 years to elect a Republican senator. I say fight. And if not for NJ, then fight for the basic principal of the rule of law, for constitutional integrity, for throwing this kind of thing back in the faces of liberal judges. Hey do I sound like Mr. Smith yet? :)

What really kills me is that the very same party that is fighting to take a candidate off the ballot in one state because they think their candidate will lose, is fully intending to keep a dead woman's name on the ballot in another state because they think she'll win. Proves they'll do anything to win.

You hit it on the head. There is NOTHING in the U.S. Constitution, nor in any state constitution, that there should be two parties. Parties are not even mentioned in the Constitution. This is a red herring, and should be dismissed by the USSC.

Previous post by Amelia:

This is something I was not aware of. If true, then the US Supreme Court must be asked to intervene for the sake of soldiers' voting rights. Last minute changes are difficult to coordinate and provide too much opportunity for mischief.

ALL I have to say to you NJ voters is not to give up. We FR Floridians did not in 2000. It's your duty to go to every Lauteliar appearance and protest holding signs saying "stay out of Torch's race".
